Bienvenue à Nice 🇫🇷☀️5️⃣
After an intense 650-nautical-mile sprint from Cartagena, Boris Herrmann’s Team Malizia crossed the line in Nice this morning, finishing 5th in Leg 3 of The Ocean Race Europe. Shifting winds, sweltering heat, and close duels with rivals kept the crew on their toes all the way to the finish, arriving just two and a half hours behind leg winner Biotherm.

Boris: “I’m really proud of the team. They worked incredibly hard, and we were in sight of our competitors the whole time. In the end, it wasn’t quite enough, but it could have been a podium finish. It was a fantastic leg, a lot of fun, and I’m truly proud of the spirit we kept on board and how we worked together.”

The team is now recharging during a short stopover in the South of France before the start of Leg 4 to Genova this Sunday. A special highlight awaits: racing past Monaco and the scoring gate, where Team Malizia will fight for points in their home waters.
Leg 4 will also mark a crew change – Loïs Berrehar steps off after two great legs, and Pierre Casiraghi, co-founder of Team Malizia and Vice-President of the Yacht Club de Monaco, comes onboard. 💪
⏰ Leg 4 start: Sunday 31 August, 17:00 CEST – Nice

Still A Lot To Play! - Day 3 - Leg 3 of The Ocean Race Europe

Biotherm and Team Holcim-PRB have edged ahead, but Team Malizia is locked in a fierce battle with Allagrande Mapei Racing and Paprec Arkéa as the IMOCA fleet charges past Ibiza and Mallorca towards “Waypoint Charlie.” With thunderstorms and shifting weather systems in play, the race to Nice is still wide open.
Life on board Malizia – Seaexplorer has been anything but a Mediterranean holiday: sleepless nights, endless manoeuvres, seasickness, bruises, and heat above 30°C. Yet the crew keeps fighting, with Loïs and Boris constantly weighing up weather strategy to stay in the game.

iHolà Cartagena! 🇪🇸
Leg 2 has come to an end, with Team Malizia finishing in 5th place. As Will Harris said a few days ago, “a small mistake can cost you a lot” and it did. The level in the IMOCA fleet is so high that there’s simply no room for errors.
It’s not quite the result we were hoping for, but the crew is happy to be back on land after flying across the finish line into stunning Cartagena, Spain. No matter the result, we are proud of this team for keeping incredible energy on board through tricky moments, from no-wind zones to fishing nets stuck in the keel.

Covering 1,400 challenging nautical miles through the English Channel, the Bay of Biscay, a Fly-By in Portugal, and the final stretch in the Mediterranean, Team Malizia earned crucial points by finishing 5th and maintaining 3rd overall. With Leg 3 kicking off in just three days and two more after that, the competition for points is still wide open!

Now it’s time to repair a few details on the boat, let the crew rest, and analyse the race before setting off again on Tuesday. Hopefully this time for a better result.
It’s not over until it’s over. 💪🌊

Fishing Net Stuck in the Keel! 😰
Rough night for our crew onboard Malizia - Seaexplorer who got stuck in a fishing net and in a no wind zone last night...

💬 Skipper Will Harris explained: "We’re getting close to Gibraltar now, Tarifa is just over there, and Africa is right in front of us. The objective is to keep pushing east, get through the Strait, and then see what the plan is from there, depending on what happens with the boats ahead and the weather.

The leaders managed to squeeze through Gibraltar with really nice breeze, so they’re still fast and quite far away. Unfortunately, we’ve lost quite a bit of contact with them. At the same time, Alla Grande made a big comeback from behind with more breeze, so now they’re very close to us.

It’s hard to say what will happen next. There are still a lot of changes possible and the maths of it all is tricky. Until we cross the finish line, we just have to make sure we minimise mistakes, keep the boat moving, and see where we end up in the end."

Let's see how the last 24 hours of Leg 2 will unfold, maybe some luck for our crew who definitely deserves it!
