Early thoughts on Bosnia vs Italy 🇧🇦🇮🇹
Honestly, a shocking result on paper — but if you watched the game, it makes total sense.
Italy were terrible. For the first 30 minutes, they created absolutely nothing. No movement, no intensity, no ideas in possession — just slow, passive football. Meanwhile, Bosnia actually looked sharper and more dangerous from the start.
Italy allowed way too many crosses into the box, and their defending inside the penalty area was really poor. Bosnia could’ve easily scored multiple goals even before halftime.
Then comes a chaotic sequence — a sloppy mistake from Bosnia, Italy score completely against the run of play… and shortly after, a very unnecessary red card from Bastoni.
At that point, it genuinely felt like Bosnia had to come back — and they did. Over the course of the game, Italy showed almost nothing: 2 shots vs 13 in the first half tells you everything. There’s just no real explanation for that level from players who compete at top European clubs.
Second half? Bosnia fully deserved their goal and honestly should’ve finished the game in regular time.
Even when it went to penalties, Italy didn’t look convincing. There was a clear sense of tension — Esposito and Cristante both tried to blast their shots and ended up missing badly. Meanwhile, Bosnia’s penalties were composed and well taken.
In the end, Italy lacked experience in key moments. Too many young or non-specialist penalty takers stepping up. For me, it should’ve been Tonali, then Frattesi, maybe even more established players taking responsibility — but it never got that far.
