Prefers sunny spots and well-drained soils.
π Description: This is a rosette stage (juvenile form) of the plant.
Deeply lobed, spiny leaves with bristly hairs, especially along the central vein and margins.
The plant will eventually grow a tall flowering stem (up to 1.5 m), producing purple flower heads.
πΌ Flowering Time: Flowers from July to September in Ireland.
π€ Curious Facts: A biennial: forms a rosette in the first year and flowers in the second.
Beloved by bees and butterflies; it's a key nectar source.

It has a striking ivory-white band across its middle and large dark spots on its wings. Leucozona lucorum has similar bands but is smaller with an orange scutellum.
