I'm having a ponder about future improvements to how I run this channel, and one thing I've been wondering is whether it's worth me establishing either a newsletter or a blog. Irregular updates, most likely, because I'm bad at sticking to schedules.
I do post some of what I'm up to over on BlueSky (link below), but there are some things that might be better suited to a newsletter format, such as industry news, and I do sometimes receive offers from affiliate programs that I can pass on to you guys but I don't really have anywhere to place those links/codes except in relevant videos.
Videos take quite a long time to make and so updates are often infrequent, but I could potentially publish short articles more regularly or collate them into a fortnightly newsletter etc.
So here's a poll! Lemme know what you think either by voting or in the comments :)
Been slacking on my film scanning somewhat lately, but finally got through a few rolls of 35mm B&W I've had sat about. Now to attack the stack of 120 stuff ๐
Having a film scanning day today! Loads of rolls back from the lab, that I took over the past month or so. Christmas lights make for some fun shots when shooting wide-open - lots of tasty bokeh.
Finally finished fixing up an Olympus OM-1 Iโve been working on. Lost a week to a spring that fell off its post ๐ but overall I feel like Iโve learnt quite a bit about how it goes together. Iโll have to figure out how to do a full tear down at some point but this one is working well without that, thankfully ๐
So far Iโve been rather enjoying it. I never liked Twitter and I continually get fed up of algorithmic nonsense on places like Instagram, so the customisation available on BlueSky is a welcome change. And it gives me somewhere to post occasional text content (as these posts only show up on mobile on YT) ๐
Itโs less engagement-baity than Threads and the photo community seems to be growing quite quickly.
New videos soon - Iโve just been struggling to get through my edit backlog ๐ค
I noticed a few more people had signed up for the paid channel membership recently, so this is just a quick thank you message to those who have done so - it's very much appreciated ๐ I don't make much off this channel yet (honestly it doesn't even cover the rolls of film I shoot in a month), but as I'm taking a break from my career in software development right now, anything I do make is very welcome and will help me spend more time on the channel in future. I love photography, but traditional methods of making money in the medium are challenging for someone like me with no fixed style or focus ๐
I'm quite careful about how I monetise this channel, and I've turned down numerous companies who have contacted me so far regarding sponsorships and the like. I would much rather maintain my own voice and freedom to somehow break everything I touch. However I would like to expand what I cover and make more videos, and for that reason I enabled the channel memberships thing a while back.
If you haven't seen my not-very-obvious links to the channel membership before, the rough gist is that you pay ยฃ1/$1 a month and I give very little in return: youtube.com/channel/UCEmR8dd2uDsIDsB_tXUEUsQ/join. It's entirely optional and I appreciate all my subscribers either way. I'm honestly just happy that anyone watches my videos at all, but any additional contribution is hugely welcome and allows me to spend more time making videos and breaking things.
There has been a brief hiatus lately while I rejig how I make videos and plan some stuff out, but normal service will resume shortly!

If youโre a recent or longer term BlueSky convert - Iโve started posting over there, in addition to Glass:
