The secret to good espresso at home! Make sure to save for later. Firstly, you HAVE to quality espresso beans. Off the shelf coffee will rarely get the job down for cafe quality coffee. My two affordable favorites are Armando's Medium Roast from Crimson Cup and RK Roasters @rkroasters Espresso Roast.
Secondly, you need a grinder that will grind your beans evenly. Uneven grind size will leave you with a splattering watery mess as shown in the reel. βπΌ My favorite affordable option from Amazon is the Shardor Coffee Grinder, as shown in the clip.
And lastly, proper puck prep is ESSENTIAL to your pull. So here is my technique. ππΌ 1. Start my espresso machine and put my clean portafilter in to warm it while the machine heats up. 2. Measuring my beans with a scale, generally 18g per double shot pull but depends on the roast, size and type of coffee beans. 3. Finding proper grind size for that particular bean. Write down grind and amount of grams for each brand of beans you dial in so you don't forget and put your settings to their proper spot when changing beans, may take a few tries to get it right. 4. Wiper water out of portafilter, fill with ground beans, and tamp. Don't stress too much about tamping. Make sure it's even and press firmly until compressed, do not need all of your body weight to press it but press firm enough to get all air out. 5. Place filter on beans in basket (if you have one, not necessary) and start your machine & hope for the best! π
