Living in an abandoned ghost town, trying to bring it back to life.
Cerro Gordo was established in 1865 and went on the be the most prosperous silver mine in California's history. At it's peak, over 4,500 miners called Cerro Gordo home. Nearly $500 million worth of minerals were pulled from the hills. Law enforcement wouldn't go to Cerro Gordo and miners were expected to solve their own problems. This led to over a murder per week in it's heyday.
Once the silver and water ran out, most packed up and headed out. The town has sat mostly abandoned for over 100 years.
My hope is to breathe life back into this town. My goal one day is to allow more people to come and stay overnight.
Restoring an abandoned ghost town with no running water is a long process with many ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.
This channel is dedicated to tracking that progress.

The result was by far the hardest hike of my life - one that increased 8,000 feet in elevation, lost 9,000 feet in elevation, required rappelling down a dozen waterfalls, and more.

Just over 1 month away from our 3rd annual Cerro Gordo Silver Run! There is still time to sign up if you're interested!
This is by far my favorite day of the year at Cerro Gordo. The town truly feels alive with a few hundred people enjoying it.
The run is 8 miles up our dirt road. There is no time limit to complete the race and last year we had our winner run it in 1 hour and 16 minutes and we had people finish at over 4 hours. You're welcome to run, jog, walk, skip, whatever you'd like.
At the top of the hill, all runners will get a great meal and drinks. Each runner will also get an exclusive race t-shirt, medal, and transportation down the hill at the end of the day.

I wrote a book!!
This is something I’ve absolutely poured my heart and soul into. The best stories, untold history, meditations on life at Cerro Gordo. This is a book for those who love history, those who seek out a life of adventure, who are on their own quest towards a big project. To lean into living and dive deep into the past.

The hurricane hit our road bad! Once again we have no road to Cerro Gordo, but we are working to rebuilt it!

We're having a film festival!
I'm super excited to announce that in September (15-17) we are going to host our first ever Cerro Gordo Film Festival up here.
We are going to invite up 6 teams that will have 48 hours to shoot, cut, and premiere a film right here at our movie theater.
The films will be judged by a panel of folks from the local area, the film industry, and some other YouTubers.
We are still looking for teams to participate as well as volunteers to help around the event. If you're interested, check out the link below.
