Mosque of the Buried Village of al-Madam, UAE. The village was swallowed by the encroaching desert and residents were forced to abandon their homes. Some buildings are now entirely inside the dunes

The emirate would later be abolished by the Soviet invasion in 1920 and replaced with the Bukharan People's Soviet Republic. Today, the territory of the defunct emirate lies mostly in Uzbekistan, with parts in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan

The mosque is located some 800 meters (feet) above sea level on the Kadırga Plateau in between the provinces of Trabzon and Gümüşhane.
