Weaving a poetic [mid] life in my garden & fiber arts studio.
I'm Kiandra, a nerdy/artistic black woman, former SAHM, Homeschooling, gardening wife/mama/artist turned PhD, FT Professor & scholar. While I love academia, I love(d) my slow paced life--gardening, quilting, weaving, knitting & writing poems.
This channel is my accountability journal, my living archive of finding balance between academia, nature & creativity in midlife. I share life vignettes and thoughts from my organic garden, weaving & spinning studio, and the side of my knitting needles & sewing machine. I believe we don't have to leave everything and move to the country to find peace, embrace joy, and cultivate a life worth living. I believe in cultivating & preserving Womanist practices rooted in Audre Lorde's "The Uses of the Erotic."
Follow for organic vegetable & flower gardening (Zone 9B), knitting, hand weaving, spinning fiber, quilting, & sewing from the other side of academia.
I hope we can be friends :)

Lots of creativity happening outside of the garden! Finished knitting my first item, finished 3 quilts, working on a 3rd, and made a big quilting purchase that might redirect content around here. Gardening has taken up the past 3 months of my life! Ready to relax in a thriving garden being creative! #knitting #quilting

#Professorlife || Grading papers and itâs stealing my creative time. đ For once I want to âedit.â Using a fountain pen and cool ink makes grading essays a bit betterâletâs see if the students notice. Also: 2 new knitting projects on my needles (tank top & cardigan). My stitches look so irregularâthanks to sleep knitting. Am I the only one so tired I knit myself to sleep? đ„Č
Working on fiber arts videos I canât wait to share. Will also be direct sowing seeds soonâbut first I have a stack of essays to grade.

Spring has arrived!! Everyday I come out there are new things to see and adore! Working on another informal tour, but I might just need to refilm one because so much has changed in just a week!
Whatâs coming alive in your garden?
