This channel is primarily about Rockhounding - how to collect rocks and minerals and crystals and where to collect rocks and minerals and crystals. Over time we have transitioned into a company with the staking of our claim, Bear Lake 2 and the North claim, and we are operating under the company name of Dark Star Crystal Mines. Our claims are rich in amphibole, pyroxenite, apatite, titanite, feldspar, monazite, amethyst and all the other crystals that the Bear Lake area is abundant in. foremost our goal is to educate and help Ontario rockhounds to better read the landscape and so in turn to up the knowledge level among amateurs. We offer digging experiences 2-3 times a week where clients can dig their own. Register at mickgord@gmail.com

Any thoughts as to what is being farmed here and what is the crystal in the background?
See the video 25-05-22 for an answer.

So, in our last video "Dark Star Crystal Mines - Crystal Collector in Ontario", Mark mentioned a certain clump of feldspar and amphibole crystals as a "Turd" that might or might not clean up. This is the end result after he gave it a scrubbing and then iron-out treatment.

We uncovered a ridge of this stuff and we are not sure of its source or how far it extends. Nevertheless we need to find a way to extract it - tremolite in crystals up to about 8 inches long.

Looking down the shaft of an old silver mine in the Cobalt area. It's mid-summer and the pit still holds ice. I believe the silver-bearing layers stands vertically to the right of the picture and in hindsight I suppose I should have had a better look at where that layer cut the surface.

I found this at the Crystal Lake Mine. It was quite heavy relative to other rocks and I pulled it from the tunnel wall. it was situated at the outer edge of the pegmatite band. Any thoughts as to what it is?

Three videos in the line-up - recent trips to Crystal Lake, The Gibson Property and Smart Mine. I sure missed the Gemboree this year.

Do I have a treat for you!!!! Just did some extraction with Jeff from an underground fissure and got an amazing haul of high quality fluorite crystals. Video to follow at some time in the next week. Just have to clean the crystals so I can show them during extraction and after cleaned. Thanks for the on-line cleaning tips "Ontario Coin and Relic" (I'll see if I can figure out how to do a link from here to there in the near future.

May 2006 issue of Rock and Gem carries an article that I did on Cobalt. Spent a fair bit of time in the town meeting the old timers - hence the history. Cobalt is quite literally living history and in most places you are touching that raw experience first-hand.
