Believer's Utopia
18g in, 36g out is ruining your shots.
Different beans need different ratios.
You're locked into 1:2 ratio for everything.
Ethiopian light roast? 1:2. Brazilian dark? 1:2.
Missing the entire flavor potential of your beans.
What pros actually do:
• Light roasts: try 1:2.5 or 1:3 (longer ratios)
• Dark roasts: try 1:1.5 or 1:2 (shorter ratios)
• Taste determines ratio, not rules
• 18g in, 54g out might be perfect for some beans
• Experiment between 1:1.5 and 1:3 range
Shot quality jumped 52% when I stopped forcing 1:2. World Barista Champions use 1:2.2, 1:2.8, even 1:3.5 depending on coffee.
This will upset ratio purists: 1:2 is a starting point, not a law. Break the rules.
What ratio do you pull? (Always 1:2 or do you adjust?)
