WooKong: Using animation and popular media as a lens to explore history.

Thank you so much for watching :)

*It takes quite a while to research and put these videos together, sorry for the slow upload schedule but please know I am always working on a new one*

*channel update*
Hi! I hope you are doing well. Just a brief message to let you know that scripting has already begun. The next video should hopefully be ready for upload in a few months.

In the meantime, on ‪@reanimated_au‬ 170 irrepressible animators recreated an episode of my favorite Journey to the West series. Please enjoy :)

We have officially passed 10,000 subscribers!

I'd just like to briefly say thank you to everyone who has decided to follow along as I spend far too long researching and editing these ridiculous videos. But having earned this small platform, I think it is only right that I also use it to highlight those that truly deserve a brighter spotlight. If you enjoyed my latest video, then please go visit www.animetudes.com/ .

The incredible research done by Matteo Watz is beyond informative and his series on Mushi Production offers invaluable insight into the inner workings of the company and Tezuka himself. His work is a godsend for any anime history fan. I hope you enjoy it :)

As usual, I have compiled every animation from the era I could find into a single video (including many not mentioned in the documentary!).

Thank you so much for watching, please enjoy :)

**Video Update**

After months of intense editing, I am excited to announce that the entire rough cut is complete! All that is left to do is clean up the voice over, fix some transitions and add in background music.

I expect that the video will be uploaded sometime within the next month. Thank you for waiting all this time, I really hope you enjoy it :)

For the sake of transparency, I decided to (though I am not obligated to) let everyone know that I was lucky enough to be selected for the ‪@vlogbrothers‬ 2023 sponsorship.

Each year the Vlogbrothers team awards monetary sponsorship to help small educational channels continue to produce videos. While it is nowhere near enough for me to do this full-time, it did help me recoup some of the costs of producing this series.

Amazingly, they ask for no editorial control or even acknowledgement from the recipients, but I thought it would be best to make the announcement to prevent any misunderstanding. Mostly I'm just humbled by all this and super motivated to get this video out at the highest quality I can produce.

Thank you to John and Hank Green as well as their entire team but I especially want to thank you for helping support this channel just by being here. I really cannot describe how much I appreciate it.

New video will be out in the next few weeks - WooKong

A big thank you to ‪@crunchyroll‬ for the mention in the recent Introduction to Donghua article. It's cool to see how much interest has grown around Chinese animation in the past few years.

(Also, next video will be out in around 2 months. Thank you for sticking around.)

I honestly thought that the current video would be out by now, but as usual deadlines are made to be broken. So first thing, I just want to wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy holiday season. Thank you for sticking with me, this has been a roller-coaster of a year.

I wont bore you with the details, but this year I have moved to cities again and changed jobs twice. Probably the biggest set back has been some unexpected health issues. Hopefully after a brief hospital stay and surgery next month should sort it out, so I'm trying best to avoid thinking about the worse case scenario too much...

In more positive news, I thought it might be nice to share a progress of the video. I expect the final documentary will be about 1.5 hours long, everything is going smoothly. Members and Patrons recieved an early draft of the first 10 minutes, but keep in mind that it is still very rough and wonky. I trying my hardest to level up the quality of everything, so I promise it'll all be worth it.

Thank you to everyone, I hope you have a great December and I wish you the very best 2024 for you and yours.
