Srila Prabhupada Himself Asks, ''What is that Duty (of a spiritual master)?...''without any addition or alteration. Then all of you become the spiritual master. That is the science of becoming spiritual master.''...........

Prabhupada: Spiritual master is not a new invention. It is simply following the orders of the spiritual master. So all my students present here who are feeling so much obliged... I am also obliged to them, because they are helping me in this missionary work. At the same time, I shall request them all to become spiritual master. Every one of you should be spiritual master next. And what is that duty? Whatever you are hearing from me, whatever you are learning from me, you have to distribute the same in toto, without any addition or alteration. Then all of you become the spiritual master. That is the science of becoming spiritual master. To become a spiritual master is not very wonderful thing. Simply one has to become sincere soul. That's all. One has to hear it properly, assimilate it, and then practice it in life and preach the same thing. Then everyone becomes spiritual master. Caitanya Mahaprabhu says: [Cc Madhya 7.128]:
[Instruct everyone to follow the orders of Lord Sri Krsna as they are given in the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam. In this way become a spiritual master and try to liberate everyone in this land.]

"The Sāvitrī saved her husband from the hands of Yamarāja. That's a long story. It will take much time. So therefore "I have got such a nice chaste wife, she will save me from the Yamarāja hands." Then I can speak shortly that Sāvitrī-Satyavān... Satyavān was to die on the marriage day. But Sāvitrī was attached to Satyavān, so her father, mother said that "You don't marry this boy. He'll die on the very day of his marriage." So love is blind. She said, "Still I shall marry him." So she married, and the husband died. So Yamarāja came. So she pleased the Yamarāja, and Yamarāja, being pleased, said, "My dear girl, you'll have a very good son"—because every girl expects some son. So Yamarāja gave her the benediction that "You will have very nice son." Then the husband was dead... No, she prayed for a good son, yes. And Yamarāja gave her benediction, "Yes, you'll have good son." First of all she pleased Yamarāja by prayers, and then Yamarāja asked, "What do you want?" "A very good son." "All right, you'll have a good son." So then the Yamarāja was taking her husband, and she was going behind. Then Yamarāja said, "Your husband cannot be returned. He is dead. And it is my duty, I am taking. Why you are coming, following me?" "Now, you said that I will have a son. So if you are taking my husband, how he will have son?" So Yamarāja came to his senses that "I have done a mistake." Then "All right, take your husband."
So these are rare instances.

"If you manufacture whims and disagree and fight amongst yourself, then it will be another edition of these so-called movements. It will lose the spiritual strength. Always remember it. You cannot.... Now, actually, people are surprised: "What this Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra has got power that it is changing so quickly?" And on the other hand, it is to be admitted, unless it has got power, how it is changing? So we have to keep that power. Don't make it an ordinary musical vibration. Prabhupada: That is idea of my Guru Maharaja, gurukula. Gurukula, we are not going to make some big, big scholars. We don't require scholars. We require ideal men by character, by behavior, by Krsna consciousness, not by studying grammar. There are many grammarians. Let them study our books nicely, English, little Sanskrit, that's all. Prabhupada: We don't want to train them as big grammarians. No. That is not wanted. That anyone, if he has got some inclination, he can do it personally. There is no harm. General training is that he must be a devotee, a pure devotee of Krsna. That should be introduced. Otherwise Jyotirmayi was suggesting the biology. What they'll do with biology? Don't introduce unnecessary, nonsense things. Simple life. Simply to understand Krsna. Simply let them be convinced that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead; it is our duty to serve Him. Prabhupada: The books should be written in simple language. First of all try to explain what is God, then what is the relationship of God with the world and the living entities. Then explain what is our duty in that relationship with God. In this way write the subjects very clearly. What one learns as child is not lost throughout the life. Prabhupäda: So far gurukula is concerned, that also, I have given program. They have given the name of "girls." We are not going to do that. Girls. Boys and girls. That is dangerous. Girls should be completely separated from the very beginning. They are very dangerous. No, no, no. No girls. They should be taught how to sweep, how to stitch ...clean, cook, to be faithful to the husband. They should be taught how to become obedient to the husband. They should be stopped, this practice of prostitution. This is a very bad system in Europe and America. The boys and girls, they are educated—coeducation. From the very beginning of their life they will become prostitutes. And they encourage. They distribute pills. I have seen the boys and girls dancing together, embracing, in the school. That ruins the career. Both of them are ruined. That is very regrettable. Then you shall require this sterilization, pills, another big program. They are creating animal civilization, and when the animals are disturbing, they are trying to find out some other means. This is their program. First of all create animals. Then, when the animals behave like animals, then another program. Why do you create animal? Woman brahmacärini, this is artificial. Prabhupada: At gurukula the girls should be taught, especially, how to become chaste and, of course, an expert in cooking. Then, she will never be neglected by her husband. Her life becomes very happy.
They can read sastra, but these are the primary conditions. Then, she will be educated. She can teach, she can preach. That is compulsory what I have given. Attending the functions of the temple and chanting on their beads -- automatically they'll advance. Especially the obligation of chanting, and if you are chanting, that is the essence. So in every kirtana function, every arati, have a nice kirtana. Gurukula means we should always know that. All the students, they should be educated in such a way that they become good citizens, good devotees, and they know the values of life. Other schools -- they do not know. They become cats and dogs. They do not know what is the value of life. Gurukula means they must be residing. Boys can live here up to 25th year, until they are married.>>> Ref. Prabhupada: Now our Pradyumna was complaining that in the gurukula, his child was not even educated to count 1-2-3-4. So I have told him that "You educate your child. Let the mother educate in English, and you educate him in Sanskrit." Who can take care? So similarly, every father, mother should take care that in future they may not be a batch of unwanted children. We can welcome hundreds and thousands of children. There is no question of economic problem. We know that. But the father, mother must take care at least. Properly trained up, they should be always engaged.

DISAPPEARANCE OF HIS DIVINE GRACE SRILA BHAKTISIDDHANTA SARASVATI GOSWAMI MAHARAJA - 'THE LION GURU'. 

THURSDAY - 19TH DECEMBER 2024.
(Fasting till noon).

My Guru Maharaja was a very great scholar, and his Guru Maharaja, Gaura-kisora dasa Babaji Maharaja, from a literary point of view, he could not even sign his name. And Bhaktivinoda Thakura asked his son, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura to accept Gaura-kisora dasa Babaji Maharaja as his spiritual master, "You go and take your initiation from Gaura-kisora dasa Babaji Maharaja."

So he thought that "I am a great scholar, and I am the son of a magistrate, Bhaktivinoda Thakura, and great Vaisnava. He'll be very much pleased to accept me."
Of course, Babaji was very much pleased. But in the beginning, he refused. He refused. Of course, that was only a show. He was not proud. Just to teach us. Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati explained that "I was a little proud. So I was thrice refused by Guru Maharaja," although he was the only disciple. So the scholarship is not a qualification for becoming a devotee. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's teaching. A scholarship may help, but it is not necessary. The real necessity is that one should be humble and meek and follow the instruction of the spiritual master. This is the real qualification."

"You can manufacture some motorcar or some needle or this or that, but you cannot manufacture the primary necessities of life. That is not possible. When there is scarcity of food, you cannot manufacture in your factory. That is not possible. That you have to receive from Viṣṇu, from God. That, that is explained in the Bhagavad-gītā, that annād bhavanti bhūtāni parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ [Bg. 3.14]. Parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ. Anna means food grains. Or even you take that "My anna, my food, is animal." That's all right, either you eat animal or vegetable or food grains, it is supplied by God. You cannot manufacture it. Suppose I am eating vegetables, you are eating meat. But meat you cannot manufacture, a vegetable also I may not manufacture. That is supplied by God. Eko yo bahūnāṁ vidadhāti kāmān. Whatever our necessities are there, it is supplied by God, Kṛṣṇa. So He advises... This world, although Kṛṣṇa supplies everything, but still, you have to work. You have to work. This material world means karma-samjñaḥ. Without working, you cannot live. You have to work.
