You won't have a candle business for long if you don't learn how to make a profit. But where do you start?

Unless your background is in finance (mine definitely isn't), start by calculating your Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).

Here’s the base calculation:

COGS = Materials + Labor + Overhead

For example, if your COGS is $5 and you sell for $10, your profit is $5 per candle.

A ton of updates just launched on MoonLite, including:


1. Batch stages
Track the lifecycle of every batch by assigning it a stage for easy tracking.
Stages: New → Pouring → Curing → Testing → Done
Now it's easy to see where all your work is at a glance on the batch page.


2. Cure timers
If you set a batch to "Curing", MoonLite will keep track of the time. Setup a reminder to get a notification when your batch is done curing.


3. COGS (simple)
MoonLite will estimate the COGS for the candles in a batch based on the unit prices setup in the Inventory. It's simple for now. Later releases will let you add more flair to the calculation (packaging, labels, etc).


4. Production Notes
Go to Batch > Production to setup production notes. Track temperatures, equipment, and more to make sure you hit the mark every time you pour.


5. Price updates
We're working to add a lot more to the product this year. A reflection of that (and inflation in general) means higher prices (with more value, we hope). Anyone on an active plan will continue to pay $6 until they upgrade or unsubscribe.

- Basic Plan: $12/month (or $132/yr)
- Pro Plan: $29/month (coming soon)

The Pro plan will be coming later this year. It will include a full testing sweet, additional inventory features, image storage, and more. It's for the higher volume workshops running large production work.
