If you're visiting us over the next few days, you might be aware of something happening in the trees. And no, it doesn't involve the cheeky Chimpanzees on the Lakeside Railway!
We have tens of thousands of trees across Lappa Valley, and unfortunately some of our trees have been affected by "ash dieback" (a disease which impacts trees), so we’re using a traditional technique called pollarding to save them.
That means carefully cutting the tree back higher up the trunk, which encourages fresh, healthy growth while keeping the tree alive and strong.
It might look quite dramatic at first — but this is all about saving trees, not removing them.
And honestly… it’s pretty fascinating to see. Skilled arborists climbing high into the canopy and working with real precision — it’s a bit of a show in itself!
This work will continue over the next few days as we look after the long-term health of our little corner of Cornwall for everyone to enjoy.
Bluey is visiting Lappa Valley next weekend (11th & 12th April) - and spaces on our trains have been filling very quickly.
So because so many families want to join us, we've decided to add more!
🐾 Pre-booking is essential through our website. Admission is at our standard rate. 🐾 Free entry for Lappa Valley Members, but you must pre-book your visit by logging into your account online.
The sunshine is very welcome at East Wheal Rose today, as our team continue building, cleaning, painting and beautifying ready for welcoming visitors tomorrow.
Colin has been working hard repainting our see-saws - and the Merry-Go-Round is turning blue!
Did you know that the Merry-Go-Round is one of our original pieces of play equipment - it's extremely popular and still going strong. If you came to Lappa as a child, chances are you rode on it.
However, with decades of use, we do spend a lot of time maintaining it — and it's got a hint of "Trigger's Broom" about it...
🚂 Today is the day - our brand new platform opens this morning! 🚂
The first service will be the 1000 departure from Benny Halt.
This is the first new platform on the Main Railway in around 45 years - and when it's up and running, we can start work proper on our new gift shop and platform at East Wheal Rose.
Are you going to be one of the first passengers to use the new platform?
We've been putting the finishing touches to our new Main Railway platform and undertaking the final training and commissioning.
...and we're pleased to share that it will be opening for service from TUESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY! The first service will be the 1000 from Benny Halt.

It’s felt like a long time coming, but it’s lovely to see the first hints of spring making an appearance across East Wheal Rose this morning.
