✨️New Zealand announced five new marine reserves✨️

Yellow-eyed penguins, albatrosses and sea lions are among the species set to benefit from the creation of five new marine reserves in New Zealand’s South Island. 

Known collectively as Te Au Roa o Te Rakihouia – in homage to the ancestral voyages made by the local Kāi Tahu iwi tribe – the reserves cover 191sq miles and are the country’s first new marine protected areas for a decade 🙂

We just found this little one out in our garden during daytime, so something is up as hedgehogs are nocturnal and are only found out in the day if they're unwell.

Poor thing has a tick in her ear bless her.
She has just gone off to rescue to have the tick removed and some tests to see if she has a high parasite burden, or anything else going on.
She's in safe hands now. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and we can release her ASAP back into our back garden 🦔
I suspect she may be one we've seen before, either Elizabeth or Jayne.
But once we know more I'll update you all ✨️

This year’s calving season along the southeast coastline of America has documented the most North Atlantic right whale calves since 2009.

Additionally, trends in calf births seem to indicate a normalization of breeding and birthing among the animals that could accelerate population recovery 🐋 🐳

The UK government has announced its largest ever investment in threatened species recovery by allocating £60 million over the next 3 years to the Species Recovery Programme.
Vital funding will be provided for habitat restoration, captive breeding programmes and long-term ecosystem recovery 💫
