I'm Matthew Cornell, a structural engineer based in Brisbane, Australia. Since graduating in 1992, I've helped builders, insurers, building consultants, architects, lawyers and property owners solve difficult structural building problems.

This channel shares the practical engineering knowledge I've gained from inspecting thousands of buildings over more than 30 years.

You'll find straightforward explanations of structural engineering, building failures, construction methods and practical solutions for existing buildings. Are you got a question about subfloor bracing? I’m getting ready to post a video this weekend. I’ve already got some ideas on what I’m going to talk about. What do you think I need to cover off on?
Some floor bracing is those crosses between concrete and timber or steel stumps. When do you need it? When is it too steep or too flat? How does it terminate at the stump? What does it do to the footing design? Can you remove it? Can you change it to something that doesn’t block the whole bay between posts?
I think we’ve got some great questions already. What else do you need to know?
