Sunny Bergenova - Invidious

🇬🇧 If I say “singer” and “Kazakhstan,” maybe the first thing that comes to your mind—if you’re the eclectic and music-loving type—is seven octaves and a name that starts with a “D.”
But that’s not the artist I want to talk about.

No, the one I want to talk about is someone who could be considered mainstream within the Kazakh pop scene. His name is Miras Zhugunussov. He’s 25 years old, has over fifteen years of stage experience, and a dozen or so original songs to his name.

True, he may not have seven octaves, but he has something just as precious: authenticity. He sings out of love for music and longs to be recognized and appreciated for who he truly is. His musical universe is both diverse and cohesive. His stage performances are often minimalist, but they carry a simplicity that touches the heart.

He’s one of those artists you listen to because there’s something in his words—and in the way he delivers them—that resonates. One other quality I can’t help but mention is his sincerity. On stage, his performances are raw and real. For him, conveying emotion matters more than flawless execution.

And even before those qualities, what charmed me first was his voice. A voice with many colors—a kind of chameleon voice. A flexible tone, and a real talent for vocal imitation. He can shift from rap to rock, from nasal high notes to deep guttural lows. I must admit, that side of him as a vocalist fascinates me.

I have a lot of hope for the future of his career—not expectations, but genuine hope. Hope that, one day, his name might be tied to melodies people sing out loud in corners of the world he’s never even been to.

Because beyond the music, beyond the numbers and the spotlight, there is a human being. A humble, discreet person with deeply rooted values. And as a listener, I also value the humanity behind the artist. I hope to see him grow while staying true to what makes him Miras Zhugunussov.

I wish Miras a successful career. I’m sure he will get even more famous in a near futur because he has such a very distinctive voice and singing style. His songs are definitely in my long playlist of Kazakh music. 💐 And I’m in love with « Елестетем”. ♥️

It was meant to be a quick drawing but I surprisingly got too caught in it. I felt like something was always missing and I couldn’t render the « Zhugunusov trait » the 3 brothers have. So I kept going during 5 hours. And even more surprisingly I drew with my heart… I drew someone else than Dimash…. With my heart! Even writing it sounds surreal.
I do affectionate that young guy for some mysterious reasons.
Maybe because he was in Dimash’s surrounding years ago? Because he sings one of my favourite Kazakh song? Well who knows? Sometimes things just can’t be explained.
