There is a part of my life I’ve never really spoken about publicly, but today I will. Because sometimes the truth must be told so people understand that not every “family help” comes from a genuine heart.

Years ago in 2014, a close cousin of mine whom I thought loved me invited me to Enugu state Nigeria and bought my JAMB form to study in a Enugu State university of Science and Technology. I didn’t beg her. She suggested it and bought it.

What I didn’t know at that time was that she was convinced I would fail. She believed I wasn’t intelligent enough to pass. It was only later I realized she wanted to use my failure to paint a narrative: “I tried my best to help him. I bought the form, but he’s just not serious. He’s not smart.” But God embarrassed her predictions. I passed.

And when I passed, something strange happened.
Instead of celebrating with me, she advised me in front of her siblings and step-mom to reject the admission. I refused her advice. I accepted my admission. And years later, I graduated with (second class honors) a decent degree which she can only dream of but can’t have.

After my graduation, I confronted her and told her the truth: “What you did hurt me. If it was your own sibling, you would never tell them to reject their admission.”

I didn’t insult her. I didn’t say it raising my voice. I just wanted honesty. I wanted an apology, an explanation, anything human.

But instead, she gaslighted me. She tried to make me feel guilty. She said I “keep things in mind for too long,” that I “hold grudges.”

That was when I fully realized who she was,and who many people around me truly were.

The truth is this: Some people will “support” you because they are sure you will fail. And when you succeed, your success exposes their intentions, so they try to sabotage it.

My family, just like most families, is deeply dysfunctional. There is too much unhealthy competition between my parents and their siblings, too much resentment, and no real love. And I’m obviously the only one who’s actively refusing to continue in that dysfunctional pattern.

So I separated myself.
For my sanity.
For my growth.
For my future.

And this is the truth: I do not feel safe around my parents’ siblings and their family. I don’t say this for pity. I say it because it is my reality. And maybe someone out there needs to hear this:

Not everyone who helps you wants you to succeed.
Some people help you because they want to witness your failure. And when you don’t fail, they become resentful and very disappointed.

I survived that environment.
I broke out of the cycle.
And I will never go back the same me again.

Chasing your purpose is not something most people will ever dare to do. Because purpose is scary. Purpose will break you down. Purpose will make you look like a failure for a long time before anyone sees the truth in you.

When you choose your path, you will be broke for a while. Not because you’re lazy, because your spirit won’t let you settle for a regular life. You won’t fit into the normal jobs. You won’t fit into the ordinary patterns. And life will test you. People will try to humble you, bully you even financially, just to make you doubt yourself.

Why?
Because deep down, they can sense where you’re going. They know your path leads to greatness, and it threatens the parts of them that refuse to grow.

So yes, purpose will isolate you.
Purpose will make you struggle more than the average person. But purpose will also reward you in a way the average person will never taste.

When you finally come out on the other side, you’ll look back and smile… grateful that you had the courage to walk the hardest road, the road designed only for you.

If you want to change your life but don’t know where to start, let me tell you this from my own journey. Since 2019, I’ve been intentionally changing my life consciously, deliberately, and I’m still on that path today.

The same habits that transformed me are the ones I’d recommend to you: start with exercise and reading.

These two may look simple, but they are extremely powerful. When you master reading and you master exercise, you become a sophisticated human being, you become dangerous in the best way possible. Why? Because these two habits refine your brain, sharpen your thoughts, and transform your entire being.

If you can add meditation, great. If you can add writing, even better. But you don’t have to complicate it. Start with these two pillars: exercise and reading.

Do this consistently for one year, and you’ll be shocked at who you become. And I’m not talking about money, fame, or external achievements. I’m talking about character, the person you are becoming.

Like a wise man once said: “It’s not about what you get, it’s about who you become in the process.”

So if you’re serious about changing your life, start here: read good books and exercise daily.

They look.
They judge.
They write me off.
‘Not a threat,’ they think.
They think they can dump their nonsense on me, bury me under their projections.

But that’s when the shift happens.
That’s when they realize.
I’m not just in the room
I’m doing things the so-called best in the room can’t even fathom.
I’m building,
I’m becoming,
I’m unbothered.

I don’t need your box, your scale, or your standard. I have a class of my own.
Not the top, not the bottom, but my own.

You want to measure me? Then measure me by who I was yesterday. Not by anyone else’s highlight reel.

I am the comparison.
I am the measure.
I am all that is.
I am.

I am Erastus Rehafe Macaulay aka Raggah Erastus, the real Raggadon.

Thank you.❤️💪🏿

Exercise is prayer in motion. Every breath, every rep, every drop of sweat is your body declaring: I choose life, I choose strength, I choose to rise and I choose me.
