There was a CIA plot to kill Patrice Lumumba. There was an assassination of Patrice Lumumba.

The plot was real: poison, prepared and flown to Congo in 1960, on the CIA director's written instruction that Lumumba's "removal must be an urgent and prime objective."

It was never used on him. He was killed five months later, in Katanga, by an entirely different set of hands.
