🚨 Scam Alert – Please Read & Stay Safe (especially if you're in North America 🇺🇸🇨🇦)
Over the last two weeks, I’ve personally experienced two active scam attempts — both disturbing and potentially damaging. I’m sharing this so others don’t fall into the same trap.
1️⃣ Utility Bill Scam (savingplan.us/) Two weeks ago, I received a call from someone claiming to represent a company called SavingPlan.us (likely a fake or temporary domain — they can switch it anytime).
They offered to pay my utility bills (Bell, Enbridge, Enercare, etc.) and asked me to send them back 60% of the credited amount via e-transfer to a personal email. When they paid $300 to my Bell account (using a third-party or stolen card), I refused to send them anything.
Shortly after, they spoofed my number — meaning they made calls appear to come from my phone number — and I started receiving angry callbacks from people I never called. (👉 Google "number spoofing" if you're unfamiliar.)
⚠️ Be aware:
Do NOT share personal details like your name, ZIP/postal code, account numbers, or utility info with random callers.
No real business will ever ask you to receive money and send a portion back — that's a classic fraud red flag.
2️⃣ DHS/ICE Number Spoofing Scam A week ago, I received another fake call — this time pretending to be from DHS / ICE (U.S. immigration authorities). The caller ID was spoofed to look legit. They wasted over 40 minutes on scripted questions, and I immediately hung up when they started asking for banking details.
✅ Key Takeaways: Don't trust caller ID alone — scammers can fake it.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Never return money for a “favor” you didn’t ask for.
Hang up if anyone asks for bank info, SIN/SSN, or credit card details.
Feel free to share this post to spread awareness. You could save someone hundreds — or worse.
