Matt The Printing Nerd

Hi, I'm Matt and I create videos which feature 3D printing, assembly and construction.

Matt The Printing Nerd

Hey everyone! I’m checking in directly from Formnext 2025 — still buzzing from the halls, overloaded with impressions, and absolutely hyped about everything I’ve seen so far. Just like last year, I spent the day diving into new printers, hotends, materials, unexpected Easter eggs, and of course a few “why does this part vibrate like that?” moments. And yes: it’s totally worth it again this year.

A huge shoutout to Formnext for inviting me once more and giving me free access to the event. Because of that, I’m doing exactly what I did in 2024:
👉 The full Formnext Report Series on Patreon is free for everyone.
No paywall, no tiers — just pure, unfiltered Formnext content for you to enjoy.

I’m posting daily updates there, including:
• new high-speed machines
• hidden Easter eggs at different booths
• interesting prototypes
• and a few things that… let’s say… should’ve stayed hidden 😅

But that’s not all:

❤️ Community Meetup — tomorrow at 1 PM!

If you’re here at Formnext as well: come join us!
We’re doing a casual community meetup tomorrow at 13:00.

You can find all details about the exact meeting point on Patreon in today’s Formnext post.

I can’t wait to meet many of you in person

See you tomorrow (or online),

After more than a year of development, I am finally able to present you my new monster, the T250, the successor to the THE100, the world's fastest CoreXY 3D printer. It still takes some time to tune everything, write the documentation, optimise the slicer profiles and make an official release video.

But im happy to share the design of it with you on patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/111200997

Also here is a short sneak peak of what the printer is capable of: www.youtube.com/shorts/6H1LkE...

After 4 months of development I am happy to announce the THE 100 Linear Motion Kit! Together with FUSHI Bearings we have developed a combination of linear bearings and linear rods. This combination is approximately 30-50% faster than any other linear motion system on the market. It is an improved version of the linear motion system I used for my 3:03 speed boat. Why is it so fast? Well that will be the main topic of the next video which will be released on 26th November with an even bigger announcement. So mark your calendars! I would also like to thank all my patrons. Not only does your monthly support allow me to work on parts like the linear motion kit, but the feedback you gave me on the bearings was important in making this product even better!

One my Patreons, Pina, has built the very first enclosed version of THE 100. What makes this even more special is that, just like THE 100 itself, this new design follows the principles of open hardware. This means that all of the construction plans are available for free on the internet, allowing enthusiasts like you to build Pina's version of THE 100

In her video, Pina provides a comprehensive walkthrough of all the modifications and adaptations she made to create the enclosed version of THE 100. If you have a command of the German language, I wholeheartedly encourage you to check out her video. It's an incredible resource for anyone looking to explore the possibilities of customizing the THE 100 printer to the maximum

Witnessing the community's innovation and creativity never fails to amaze me. Pina's project is a testament to the collaborative spirit that fuels this community and pushes the boundaries of what's possible. As we continue this journey together, I can't wait to see more incredible projects and adaptations that showcase the endless potential of the THE 100 printer design.

Thank you, Pina, for your dedication and for inspiring us all with your enclosed version of THE 100.

I hope you're all doing well. I have some unfortunate news to share. Upon returning from Maker Faire, I tested positive for COVID. It's been a challenging period, and I want to be transparent about how it's impacting my plans.

As you know, I've been working diligently to meet the self-imposed deadline for the v1.1 release, aiming for the 27th of August. However, this week has proven to be exceptionally demanding. The virus has taken a toll on my energy levels and concentration, making it incredibly challenging to ensure everything is prepared for the upcoming release.

In light of these circumstances, I've had to make a tough decision. My health and well-being must take precedence, and I believe it's in the best interest of everyone involved to prioritize my recovery. With this in mind, I've decided to adjust the release date for v1.1. The new release date is now set for the **4th of September**.

I understand the anticipation surrounding this release, but currently Im not able to do the support a release like this needs, with all the questions in discord and youtube, the interviews with magazines and web communities, the promotions on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. I have to focus on my recovery before I can return to that project and participate on that stressful time.

With that said: Stay safe, stay positive, and thank you for being a part of this journey with me.

Excitement is building as we count down just three days until the much-anticipated v1.1 release of THE 100 printer! The moment is almost here, and to make it even more special, I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be hosting a live Q&A session following the release video. This is your chance to get all your burning questions answered!

Today I've finalized the comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) for v1.1. I'm proud to share with you that the total cost for a complete build stands at 275 Euros or 297 dollars. Thats about 50 dollars less than v1.0. And that's without even factoring in potential AliExpress discounts or promotional codes!

Taking things up a notch, this time around, I've taken your feedback to heart. Remember those numerous requests and messages about hard-to-find or more expensive parts? Well, I've got some fantastic news. I've made the decision to make all the AliExpress links public. Yes, you heard that right! Say goodbye to the frustration of hunting down parts, and instead, embrace the ease of accessing the direct links.

As our community has grown by a whopping 300%, I've come to a realization. While I've always been committed to providing support, I understand that the sourcing phase can be overwhelming for all of you. So, in an effort to simplify things and ensure everyone can benefit, I've made the BOM document public and accessible for free.

Until now a BOM with AliExpress Links was patreon exclusive. With the release around the corner, it's inevitable that the sellers' stores will experience a surge in traffic, possibly leading to price hikes. To keep things fair and equitable, I've taken action. Today, I'm excited to release the BOM to my dedicated Patreons. They've been my backbone, and I want to ensure they continue to get the best prices as possible.

For those who have shown unwavering support, you're in for a treat. And to the rest of the community, worry not. The simplified sourcing process is within your reach, even if it means a slight increase in part costs. After all, ensuring your journey is smooth and hassle-free is what matters most.

So, let's make this v1.1 release unforgettable. Tune in, join the live Q&A, and let's celebrate the spirit of innovation, community, and progress together. Your enthusiasm and support have driven this project, and together, we're on the verge of another groundbreaking chapter. See you all very soon!

It is done! After 6 month of constructing, building, testing, tuning and optimising my new THE 100 v1.1 printer it's finally ready for some speedboats!

I've uploaded the whole video on youtube and yes there is also a clock timing the run and making it an official attempt for the speedboat race. It was a crazy intense time with many late hours and dozens of setbacks to come to this point. Big thx for all of my Patreons and especially those who support me since day one. Without you guys this would not be possible!

I want to celebrate this moment together with you all of you, so make popcorn, chill some drinks and let's watch my speedboatrace entry together!

After 3 months of development, I got to the point where I think that the design of THE 100 v1.1 is stable enough for a larger group of people. Every part was tested and will be tested even further since it's part of my current daily driver I use for prototyping. So yeah today I've released v1.1-beta1 for my 5$ Patreon.

Changelog:
- New Toolhead: The toolhead was redevelop from scratch. Compared to v1.0 it's able to push about 65% more air at the critical point directly under the nozzle.
- New Feet: The new feet are able to absorb 25%-30% more force before the frame starts shaking
- Removed Rods from the back of the printer: This removed 2 linear rods from the BOM reducing the price of the printer by another 7-10$
- Clearance fix for Toolhead: The toolhead is now able to move 5-6mm more in the X-Axis
- Added allen wrench holes for X/Y-Motors
- Added Nut-Inserts to the Mainboard Mount
- Added Clamp to fix Power Cord
- Made LM8UU Exchangable
- Added Quickmounts for Z-Rods
- Bugfix: Power Supply Holder
- Added cable guides for proper cable management
