Madaling sabihin at mapansin ang podium, pero hindi nakikita ang tunay na sakripisyo sa likod: 3x sa isang linggo ang training, tapos may 2 araw pa para sa strength, lifting, at stretching—kasama pa minsan ang no rice at healthy diet para magaan ang katawan sa race day at malakas ang tibok ng puso.
Ultra LSD run tuwing weekend para sa endurance. Kahit murang sapatos o ukay-ukay na medyas, tuloy pa rin kahit may blisters at sakit sa paa.
Hindi ramdam ng iba ang hirap ng solo long run sa dilim—music lang ang kasama mo at dasal. Init sa umaga, tapos ginagabi sa masukal o liblib na lugar, at minsan pa ay nasusuka sa sobrang inom ng tubig—bahagi na lahat 'yan ng training.
At syempre, mga asong humahabol—ilang beses na, minsan tig-apat pa! Buti na lang, free speed drills 'yun. Yung isa, tatlong ruler na lang layo ng kagat!
Sana all, ‘di lang puro puna puna. Kasi habang sila nakaupo, tayo tumatakbo pa rin. "Training palang podium na!"

I turned 37 on July 7, Monday.
Isa sa mga ultimate dreams ko bilang isang ultra runner ay ma-loop ang Mt. Malindang ng buong Misamis Occidental—at ito na ang pang-4 kong attempt!
Laser-focused ako na matapos ang buong loop bago pa umabot ang birthday ko, and by the time dumating ang Monday, nasa 3rd day na ako ng course at nasa Calamba na. I knew I had to finish no matter what.
Late ako nakaalis ng Calamba dahil kulang sa tulog at hindi pa fully recovered ang katawan ko—crucial 'yun kasi ang traverse mula Bonifacio to Don Victoriano hanggang Concepcion ay sobrang hirap, puno ng walang-humpay na uphill at exposed pa sa tirik ng araw.
Dito ko lalong naintindihan—you have to listen to your body, kung kaya mo pa ba ‘yung pain, ‘yung hell-like na struggle every assault and ascend. Struggle over comfort. Risk over boring.
Nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos sa buhay, sa lakas, at sa chance na makita ang ganda ng kalikasan at mabubuting tao na na-encounter ko sa buong journey na 'to. Sana maging inspirasyon ito sa iba—hindi para angasan, kundi para patunayan na ang determinasyon ay kayang tumapos ng pangarap.
Ang mindset ko: "Fully loop Mt. Malindang – Misamis Occidental."
Na-achieve ko ito—hindi man pinakamabilis, pero mas ligtas at buo.
Dalawang beses akong napaiyak sa trail na ‘to, pero hindi ako huminto.
Nagpasalamat lang ako sa Diyos na narating ko ‘yung part na ‘yon at ligtas pa rin ako.
Maybe those were tears of joy—dahil sa bigat ng blessing.

Misamis Occidental Loop Ultra Long Slow Distance Run ⛰️⛰️⛰️🚶⛰️⛰️🏃 (3rd attempt)
Partida, may 31KM+ pa akong dumaan sa Zamboanga del Norte!
I can’t call it a failed attempt—this journey is a true testament that God is with me, guiding me through every brutal stretch of the course.
Sa bawat sandali ng sakit—stomach pain, knee pain, chest pain, muscle pain, at pati na rin ‘yung ugat sa right foot (I think)—I called out to Him. Every time I conquered a grueling uphill or endured the freezing winds of Don Victoriano and Nueva Vista (Mansawan), pati na rin ang init ng araw na sinabayan ng unli-akyat, I felt His presence carrying me through. At bawat tagumpay, kahit simpleng akyat, I always thanked Him for the endurance and strength to keep going.
Minus 11KM sa total distance kasi mula sa Opao, Dapitan, napilitan akong magpa-rescue sa tropa ko—yung dati kong ka-teammate sa sayawan, runner na rin ngayon. Dilim na, malalayo ang mga bahay, walang street lights, at may kutob na rin ako na baka may gustong maki-jogging na multo. Kaya I made the call to pause.
I stayed overnight in Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte, from 11PM to 11AM—to rest, recover, and reset.
Pagdating naman sa Plaridel, may 20KM+ pa bago makarating sa Oroquieta City proper, at nagabihan na naman ako. Makikita mo na rin ang sama ng panahon—umambon, lumamig, at unti-unting dumilim ang paligid. Sa ruta ng Plaridel to Oroquieta, maraming parte ang madidilim at malalayo ang mga bahay, at honestly, parang hindi lang multo o aso ang pwedeng sumabay—baka pati na rin lasing na tambay. Kaya I decided to stop.
Looking forward ako sa next attempt, pero this time with a better plan.
Kailangan ko i-review kung ano ang kulang o nakabagal sa akin—maybe sa nutrition, proper food intake, strength training, or rest week preparation. Everything matters kung gusto kong ma-full loop ang buong Mt. Malindang – Misamis Occidental.
Still, I’m grateful for every step.
This is not the end—this is just one part of the process.
Looking forward to completing this ULTRA LSD goal.
I still can’t believe I made it through the Mt. Malindang route—bucket list UNLOCKED 🔓
