Why Your Car Smells Like Gas
If your car smells like gas (petrol), it’s usually a sign of a problem that should be addressed quickly. Here are the most common reasons:

🔧 1. Fuel Leak
• Cause: Damaged fuel line, injector seal, or fuel tank.
• Sign: Strong gas smell inside or outside the car, especially after driving or parking.
• Fix: Mechanic should inspect the entire fuel system.

⛽ 2. Loose or Damaged Fuel Cap
• Cause: Cap not tightened properly or seal is worn.
• Sign: Smell around the fuel door; check engine light may come on.
• Fix: Replace or tighten the cap properly.

🔥 3. Fuel Injector Leak
• Cause: Worn O-rings or cracked injectors.
• Sign: Smell while driving, poor fuel economy, rough idle.
• Fix: Replace faulty injector or seals.

🛞 4. EVAP System Issue
• Cause: Faulty charcoal canister, valve, or hoses in the EVAP (evaporative emissions) system.
• Sign: Smell mainly near rear of car or during hot weather.
• Fix: Diagnose and repair EVAP components.

🚗 5. Engine Misfire or Running Rich
• Cause: Too much fuel in the air-fuel mixture.
• Sign: Smell from exhaust, black smoke, rough running.
• Fix: Check spark plugs, sensors (O2, MAF), or fuel pressure regulator.

⚠️ Important Note:

Never ignore a gas smell—it could lead to fire risk or carbon monoxide exposure. Get it checked by a mechanic immediately.
