🎬 Another Unity reality check is out now!🚨

Unity announced its Unity AI will be shown off at GDC 2026, where casual games can be created through AI prompts only. No code necessary from the game developer - only natural language as input. One of the first game engines to do so.

Unity notes it intends to lead the push towards an AI-centred world of Game Development - but what this actually means for game development, players and the game industry has not been talked about... until now.

This is not a video bashing the anti-AI playbook. It's a conversation about the bigger picture of Unity AI, AI tooling, video game market saturation, visibility of video games, business models built on bad faith and, for many developers, game development becoming unsustainable.

Where AI tools are seen as productivity boosters and even less actually do so, the greater effect of generating entire games with AI has on the industry is one we need to talk about.

🎬 New video out now! 🚨

I built a Twitch Chat integration in Godot 4.6 (.NET / C#), allowing viewers to spawn into my game world as DUCKS during live streams.

In this devlog, I show how I created a dependency-free Twitch API integration from scratch using Twitch EventSub, WebSockets, OAuth 2.0 (Device Code Flow), and an event-driven architecture designed specifically for game engines.

I tried to create a lightweight, engine-agnostic Twitch integration library built for game developers who want a plug-and-play approach to real-time Twitch chat interaction inside their games.

If you've ever wanted chaos - this one is for you.

Hey guys 👋🏻 hope you're all having a good start to the week!

Just a quick update to let you all know I'm working hard on the next video, but it's taking a little bit longer than I expected. I wanted to release it last Friday, but I've sadly had to focus on other priorities over the last two weeks.

We're going back to the usual dev infotainment content with this one which I'm super excited to share with you. It's also a bit meaty tech info-wise, so wanted to spend a bit more time balancing it properly.

In other news, an older family member also decided to yeet themselves and break a hip (for fun I think... but didn't seem right to ask at the time) - they're all good now and joking around, but I wanted to step back for a hot minute and give them some company.
For those wondering: it is indeed very difficult to get a video game, in which you are trapped, into a hospital. And no, they did not help with the giant butterfly problem 🦋

All that said, I'm aiming to release the new video this Friday so I hope you look forward to it! 🎬

As always, thank you all for your support and understanding - I appreciate it more than you know! ❤️

🎬 New video out now! 🚨

Game development often feels painfully slow - especially when nothing looks like it’s changing. When progress isn’t visually obvious it’s easy to feel stuck, unsure and deflated, even when foundational systems are being worked on.

In this video, we break down why progress can feel invisible, how frontend work distorts backend progress and how you’re probably further along than you think.

I talk about the difference between visual progress vs backend progress, why visible changes trick our brains into feeling productive more than backend and how this affects motivation in game development (and creative work in general).

If you’ve ever felt like your project (of any kind) is going nowhere, this video is for you.

🎬 New video out now! 🚨

Game Devlogs don’t always show you the whole picture. In this video, we discuss the aspects of indie game development that rarely make it into videos - the invisible work, navigating the limitations worked under and the reality of working on a game project long-term.

Game devlogs often show progress, features and wins. But behind every update is refactoring, failed ideas, creative doubt and personal decisions that shape development just as much as the developer themselves.

Whether you're a game dev or just love devlogs, check it out! 🙏🏻

I hope you've all had a great year and are having a happy holiday🎄🎁

I wanted to write a small update partly to express something important to me, partly to say thank you and partly to hint at what’s ahead for DarkDax.

2025, for me, has been extremely busy. I moved, work kicked my ass, I’ve been unable to meaningfully work on my game for stretches of time, among other things. As a result, this year only saw the release of a handful of videos - but every single one was made with all the love, effort and passion I have. There’s always more where that came from and there’s always more I want to make.

This year I’ve pushed myself to learn new things and set a course toward a new, ambitious direction for the channel. One that challenges my abilities, informs my creativity, and motivates me to make and share something truly special with you - for you.

In case you haven't noticed... I'm trapped in my own video game. It's not a quick gimmick - it's actually a bit of a problem... Firstly, there are no toilets. The only way for me to escape is to finish what I came here for - to make a video game.

It started off as a joke Dog's Life game fueled by childhood nostalgia but quickly expanded into an important story I wanted to share from the exact same place. Something relatable. Something I cannot wait to continue working on... even if that means learning how to do a lot of things I currently have no idea how to do and figuring it out as I go...

What I've especially loved doing, and what I hope you've enjoyed, is incorporating subtle story and world-building elements in each video, connecting them into something much larger. Most recently, this showed up in my The Games Industry Before Christmas video. It's outside of what I know, but it's exciting and drives me towards the vision in my head.

The game, and this whole project, has become core to what DarkDax is for me - and I cannot wait to share more of this whacky, wild world with you next year through more content and finally... more livestreams.

It goes without saying that without your support, this would be so much harder. Having created the channel in 2008, I've experienced what years of uploading to no one feels like - demoralising. We’re soon approaching 30k subscribers and I don’t take that for granted for a single second. It's an achievement that is quite literally impossible without you.

Thank you for supporting me - whether that's been for 5 years or for 5 minutes, you're a Patreon or not, you've shared a video or simply watched. It all means the world to me.

Thank you.

Jack ❤️

We round up everything from PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Valve, to game development chaos, AI ethics, studio closures, community achievements, gaming politics, payment processor controversies, and the redemption arcs that defined the year.
