I'm a historian and Warhammer addict. This whimsical youtube channel is primarily dedicated to WARHAMMER but also some media uploads from my appearances on TV and radio as a historian of Victorian Britain will appear from time to time.

***ASK DR BLAXILL - PUNK PHONE IN***
Would you like to ask Dr. Blaxill a question or hear his extended thoughts on a certain topic? Relating to Warhammer, or gaming and the hobby in general?
Well, I’m going to do a ‘Q&A’ video where I’ll read out some questions then give my considered thoughts. A bit of an experiment.
Ask a question below, or if you prefer to do so by DM, email me at luke.blaxill@gmail.com

Something very large - a production of grand majesty - coming soon.
In other news I spotted this last night on my ride through the streets.

New discussion between me and @d6wounds on the 'Spirit of the Game'.
Will the community reject 'Linehammer'? What is gentlemanly play? What was Stillman on about?
All this and more below!

Many a Punk seems to have taken my LINEHAMMER expose rather seriously. Goonhammer have just published a very confident riposte that 'Linehammer doesn't work'.
Well- au contraire punks! Linehammer is real and you better believe it!
Yes, linehammer is adversely affected by terrain. Likewise, I can confirm it does indeed die if you plough four times as many resources into it (well I never!)! Or if you have something even more absurd than linehammer- a 10 wound 2+, 5++, 5+++ Dragon!!Or if your opponent gives you a flank (of course he will!). However consider instances beyond the prima facie obvious rebuttal to the satirical superficial shoving of a plank of wood!
1. There are several instances where a free reform is allowed by the rules. Fall back in good order being the most pertinent. If you make my gentlemanly ranked up brick FBIGO, perhaps I will not meekly retain my original formation for another kicking next turn, but regenerate into a line to deter your follow up with a boatload of attacks? Maybe I am fleeing and I rally. Likewise, another opportunity to spawn into a great line arrayed in any angle when you least expect it!
2. There are powerful teleportation spells in game that are hard to stop, because the wizard casting them is highly likely to be outside of 24' of your wizard (and can in any case move first). Then suddenly my line flies 24 inches across the board with steed of shadows! Well well!
3. Consider what a free redressing of the ranks with 'drilled' can do immediately before I charge. Suddenly a sensible formation might turn into a very silly line very quickly.
More to the point though, the example of LINEHAMMER isn't to show you an invincible strategy. That misses the point. It is a satire to demonstrate the weakness of the reverse. Fantasy is supposed to be about ranked up formations, but the tiny incentive to rank up in OW means lines are better value in almost every instance. They aren't a universal gamewinner but their obvious strength versus the extreme weakness of ranks *is* a balance issue which ought to be addressed by GW themselves, or by comp.
Those punks at Goonhammer didn't acknowledge Dr. B or his video but here's their riposte: www.goonhammer.com/the-old-world-line-and-why-it-d…

Three more games of OW tomorrow! Time for more Linehammer!
Note that while the warriors are arrayed in what I shall call a PICKET LINE formation, the dogs are in the line party too, but in the CONGA LINE. It's a Marching column so 21 inch move and easy wheels due to frontage of one- the perfect chaff!
Problem is, nobody has made any movement trays for LINEHAMMER yet- gap in the market there entrepreneurs!
(I am actually hoping that I, or someone else, find a way to break this line hammer shenanigans soon).

Hey Punks. I will have PLENTY to say about the Warhammer TOW Magic announcement. Alas I'm riding through the desert and away from tech, but come Friday, you will hear from me- oh yes!
