IKEA Patio Shading Hack

You've asked so many times about our shading for the glass roof, and here's a super affordable solution, which was actually only intended for temporary use and has been installed for three years now.

Due to our low roof, we couldn't install an awning above or below the glass. I wanted to retain as much height as possible. We had panels sewn from a thick, durable fabric from IKEA that fit exactly between the individual rafters.

This way, we utilized the full height. A tunnel was sewn into each end. We had some leftover round wooden rods, which we cut to the required size.
You can also get the matching curtain rods from the Swedish company. Wall brackets for attaching the curtain rods were screwed to the rafters on the right and left, top and bottom. Hang the rods at the top and bottom, secure them, and your shading is complete. We love it because we can also remove individual sections as needed. The fabric is also super washable.

I have received several questions about the fabric I have on the ceiling of the greenhouse & how I have set it up 🤍

It is a thinner cotton fabric that I sewed myself & hangs over the steel wire in the ceiling. At the bottom of both sides of the fabric I have sewn a channel, wide enough to get the tool through which makes it easier to pull the black line through. On all four corners of the greenhouse I put a hook that I attach the line to. I have also put some extra hooks along the long sides that pull the fabric in towards the window.
I bought the hooks at Willabgarden 🤍

MAKE YOUR OWN CANDLES: I love candles, but not the toxins they often produce, so I decided to make my own. The process was surprisingly therapeutic (and just a little messy). I sourced beeswax from a local apiary because it’s known to purify air and even help with allergies.

Hortensia 'Annabelle strong' is the effective queen of my garden. Its gigantic flowers grow on this year's shoots, so spring cutting is the key to spectacular flowering.
An empty flowerbed will turn into a fluffy white cloud in a few months, which will brighten up the shady spot in front of the arborvitae. I am still waiting to cut, clean and vacuum the flowerbed.

And you - have you already trimmed your hydrangeas?

BARNDOORS DIY:
It was time again for a low-budget sliding door, this time using two Ikea Pax doors.

Tip: Hornbach has cool track systems for every taste – or just browse on Amazon.

Since the included floor solution didn't fit due to the shortening of the door, I had to get creative: I grabbed two U-profiles and built a DIY guide rail. Unfortunately, I sawed the door too short 😅, but hey, learn from my mistakes and do better!

I quickly sprayed the U-profile black (unfortunately, it wasn't available ready-made in black). Then: track on the wall, fittings on the door, handle on – and voila, the easy DIY sliding door is ready!

IKEA IDEAS FOR YOUR LIVING ROOM: I was getting so many questions about which cabinets we used...
I think that wasn't obvious to some people, despite the description...

You'll need two Billy cabinets with Oxberg doors and two Billy | Oxberg bookcases...

It's really important to attach the cabinets to each other and to the wall so they don't tip over...!!!!!!!!

And if you like, you can seal the holes with universal kit, sand them, and paint them...
A bit of work, but you'll have a super high-quality cabinet 🥰

Screwing them together and attaching them to the wall is absolutely necessary.

POOL CONSTRUCTION - a completely different reality today.

I get asked so often whether it was difficult to build the pool - and all I can say is, it was difficult and time-consuming 😂
My husband built most of it all by himself and I would never have thought that we would have such a huge construction site in the garden 😂
He used a mini excavator to tip each individual shovel onto a cart and dispose of them one by one.

We put up the walls ourselves, laid the electrics and the stone slabs and installed them. We had the pool company put in the concrete and the liner, in total we had a construction site for half a year....

But it was soooo worth it and we would do it again anytime!
