I’m Lucy 👋, a former charity CEO, now a leadership coach working with experienced leaders navigating career change, difficult workplaces, or the question of what comes next.
After 30 years in the non-profit and public sectors, I know what these situations actually feel like. I’ve been made redundant, burned out, and rebuilt from scratch. That’s what shapes everything I make here.
If you’re a mid-life leader in the charity or public sector trying to make sense of where you are and what to do about it, you’re in the right place.
Weekly videos on difficult workplaces, job loss, burnout, and building a working life that fits you.
If you’re interested in working with me directly, you’ll find details of my coaching in the links below.

I regularly signpost people who are looking for workplace advice to Acas. Their web site offers free, practical resources if you're dealing with something difficult at work in the UK.
That was fine because most of my career has been in this country but YouTube has brought me a different audience all around the world.
So I thought I'd have a look for resources in other countries, starting with English-speaking countries since that's where most of my viewers are. Most have their own version of Acas providing free, impartial information.
💼 Australia: the Fair Work Ombudsman
💼 Canada: Employment and Social Development Canada
💼 Ireland: the Workplace Relations Commission
💼 New Zealand: Employment New Zealand
💼 The US doesn't have one single body, but the Department of Labor and the EEOC between them cover most of it
I've put the relevant links in the attached graphic (sadly not clickable but will share below in the comments). Apologies for being so English-centric - I will seek out resources for other counties if you let me know where else I should include.
Hope it's helpful and, to be honest, hope you don't need it!
Happy Tuesday, wherever you are in the world ❤️ 🌎

One year ago TODAY, I set up this channel. I hadn't filmed a single video yet.
I just created the account, typed in a channel name, and stared at a blank screen.
Today, exactly one year later, here's what's happened:
📹 75 videos published
👀 Over 1 million views
👋 22,700 of you here
⏱️ Nearly 75,000 hours of your time spent watching
75,000 hours!!! That last number is incredible. Real people taking their precious time to watch my content. Thank you so much for trusting me.
I started this adventure aged 57 with over 3 decades of workplace experience and absolutely zero idea how YouTube worked. I promised myself I'd make 10 videos over 10 weeks and see what happened.
I've published a new video, and a few more!, every Wednesday since, and here we all are 😀
I'm filming a video about what this year of reinvention has actually taught me: the things I got wrong, the moment everything changed, and what I'd say to anyone standing at the start of something new. It'll be up soon and I hope you'll find it interesting.
What's the one video of mine that stuck with you most this year?
Pop the title (or just a few words about it) in the comments👇

As the football World Cup gets going in Canada, Mexico and the USA, here’s a throwback photo of me SIXTEEN (yikes!) years ago this very day supporting Nigeria in their group match against Argentina in Jo’burg 😎🌞
Any of you going to any of the matches in this tournament?

Happy Friday to all!
As I approach my one year anniversary of starting this channel, I'm thinking about creating a space where we could keep the conversation going and support each other beyond the comments to my videos.
I'm conscious that some of my viewers might not feel comfortable sharing their experiences publicly on YouTube but might want to access support in a private, members-only community.
Would you be interested in joining something like that?
Let me know any thoughts or suggestions!

I’ve been reading your comments on my latest video and noticed a pattern.
Many of us find it harder to describe our own work than to actually do it!
Have you ever felt like there's a gap between what you've achieved and how you explain it to others?
Check out the full discussion here if you missed it:

The entrance to Kings Norton Nature Reserve is looking particularly enticing on this sunny afternoon.

Here's a little weekend quiz for you. You've spotted the red flags. Now what?

Someone told me recently that they’d worked in the same team for three years and still didn’t feel like they belonged there. Not because anyone was unkind. Just because there was never any room to be uncertain, or slow, or honest.
I’ve been thinking about the difference between being included and actually belonging. They’re not the same thing.
This week’s newsletter is about that. And about what workplaces get wrong when they try to manufacture belonging with pizza and away days.
The question I left readers with: do the people you lead actually feel like they belong, and how would you know?
Would love to know what belonging has felt like for you, when (if?!) you’ve found it at work.

Gaslighting at work is confusing and difficult to deal with. I've been on the receiving end and it left me doubting my sanity and made me realise just how cowardly people who gaslight are.
I made a video about it a while ago to help you identify the signs and deal with them calmly.
I've also included some lines which you can adapt and use in the moment if someone tries to reinvent reality.
If this is something you've experienced at work, let me know and hope you find the video helps a bit.
