But Menstrual leave isn’t a new concept in India — it’s just been limited in scope until now

Bihar has allowed two days of menstrual leave per month since 1992, but only for government employees.

Kerala introduced menstrual leave for students in 2023, and later extended similar provisions in some government offices.

Some private companies like ‪@zomato‬ and Culture Machine also adopted internal menstrual leave policies.

What makes Karnataka’s move historic is its scale and inclusivity — it applies to every working woman, across all sectors — from IT and MNCs to garment factories and startups.

This isn’t just a policy update; it’s a cultural statement:Acknowledging biology isn’t bias — it’s empathy in action.
