The Wisconsin EV channel covering all things electric vehicles in Wisconsin. From DC Fast Charging station visits to show you where to charge your EV. To touring the Badger state in your electric vehicle. To news and events to keep you informed.
I found a screen capture on my phone that I did on Wednesday of BOTH cables being out of order at Home Depot in Madison. This is what I was seeing every time I checked it. There was some real miscommunication in the system if the CHAdeMO cable was actually active when it showed this.
If you watch my newest vid on the complaint about the “available” light on the Chargepoint charger here’s some background. I didn’t grab a pic on the app showing the Home Depot charger as both offline. Wish I did. But here are the submitted tickets that I sent in back on Dec 8 and 10 about it being down.
Thanks to those who let me know the graphic on the latest BP Pulse in Huntley, IL video was wrong. I switched it and re-uploaded the correct one.
Quality control is only as good as the person doing it! I must have been taking a break when I exported that video on Friday night.
Feel free to watch the new one....again. One aggrivation with YouTube I have is that you can't just switch out a video with a fixed one. Could have just blurred it, but I'm not really figuring these short What's it Look Like vids are going to break the internet, so I just switched it out.
I'll try to be better! But please, let me know when I'm not!
I can’t get up there to confirm, but they took over the Plugshare page (switching the failed inspection sticker pic for the one below - your welcome Ionna) The Chargepoint app also shows the 10 stalls available.
They didn’t make the New Year’s rush due to failing inspection, but better 9 days late than never.
$.37/kWh is very nice as well.
I am looking forward to stopping there on Tuesday.
I FINALLY have some new content ready. My just-about-a-full-length-documentary-on-Kwik Charge will be available tomorrow morning. It's telling me it's gonna be 5 hours to render the audio for captioning...sooooooo. Tomorrow it is. I don't think I've ever edited a video that is as long as this one...almost 52 minutes (184,753 frames of video). It's a deep, deep, deep dive.
This will be a complete look into the Kwik Charge network with 10 open stations...and several more soon to open, including the first in Minnesota. And more...
Stay tuned for that....tomorrow.
After that video I have a new type of station visit to debut. I have several visits on video that I didn't record myself at for various reasons. Instead of trying to piece something together I am going to make them into a new video category for the channel.
WILL - What's it Look Like - visits. They're shorter with just some music and video, but they'll give you an idea of what to expect if you are planning on going to the station. I think I have almost 10 of them that I can (hopefully) put together quicker than a full station visit and get more of the charging stations around the region on the channel. Maybe I'll go back and do a full visit with categories and amenities talk and charging speeds, etc, at some point, but these are just a look around.
So WisconsEV - WILL - Tesla Supercharger ORD is batting lead off for the new category. It's got 52 stalls right outside of O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Also neighbors with the BP Pulse Gigahub that I visited last month.
It's taken me longer to produce my Kwik Charge Magnum Opus Year-End masterpiece video than I had hoped. SO, it will now be a YEAR OPENING video to kick off 2026.
I was told my Kwik Charge account was in the top 10 for charging visits in 2025, and number 2 for locations charged at (had a perfect 8-for-8 before Pewaukee and Fondy opened)! I know about these stations from experience.
I've currently got about 40 station visits and other videos to get out, including some other Kwik Charge/charging at Kwik Trip stops, so no shortage of content coming...Oh and that doesn't include the IONNA Lake Delton that will be opening, if it's not already when you read this.
Thanks for all 500 plus subs this year! It was a great 2025 for this fledgeling Wisconsin EV-centric channel. I think I've got some pretty cool stuff coming, so please stick around for what's next.
In case you haven't seen the news yet. The Kwik Charge stations in Fond du Lac and Pewaukee are now open and charging EVs. That gives them 10 active stations that places them just outside the top 50 DCFC networks in the country.
They'll vault into that top 50 when they open the next 5 stations (black dots on the maps). All of the 5 have their charging equipment installed. They are waiting for transformers to be installed and commissioning of course, but don't sleep on those. They will be open soon.
Pro tip...I was at the Pewaukee station on Friday and realized you can watch your EV charge out the back windows while getting a cup of coffee inside. And I thought the stations were hidden around the back of the Kwik Trip!
A couple updated maps for you too. There is coverage now with Kwik Charge, but it will get much better in the future! I threw in the couple Minnesota Kwik Charge stations in the works on that 3rd map as well because they are pretty close.
I'm going to do a deep dive into Kwik Charge in a video - hopefully ready next week (pre-New Years) - so stay tuned for that!.
I'm heading down to the 1 cent/kWh celebration at the Chicago O'Hare (ORD) Gigahub tomorrow. 40 stalls with NACS and CCS cables from BP Pulse. I'm checking out a bunch of other spots on the way for you Wisconsin travellers that need to drive south on I-39/90 to get to your destination.
One other note....right next door to this 40 stall station is a 54 stall Tesla Supercharger. Looking forward to checking them both out.
I haven't been there yet, so I hope it's easy to get off the highway and get charging. It can be difficult to navigate Chicagoland if you don't drive there often. So we'll see.
RIP the CCS Cable at Home Depot on Verona Rd in Madison.
My FAVORITE charger is Out of Commission right now. Stopped to grab a couple electrons on the way home at the Home Depot - MG&E Chargepoint CPE250 in Madison.
It's unfortunately the best CCS charger on the Southwest side of Madison. I realize that you might judge when I'm typing that a machine that can only hit 46kW for my car is my FAVORITE charger, but stick with me.
That thing worked HARD. Being the only good CCS handle in the area has meant some long hours of pumping electrons. Here are some stats that I have collected thanks to my own usage and the Chargepoint App:
12/20/24 was the first time I charged there. Since it opened on 12/29/22 the meter showed 31,848 kWh dispensed. That's 44 kWh/day for about 2 years.
They changed the meter, so the last day I have reliable/relatable numbers from is 11/9/25.
11/9/25 - Energy dispensed overall was 107,141 kWh. That raised the average over its lifetime to 102.43 kWh/day.
Between December 2024 and November 2025 it dispensed 75,292 kWh. That's 232.38 kWh/day. At a max of 62.5 kW that CPE 250 was cranking FULL for 3.7 hours per day...every day. If you pulled less than 62.5kW then it was working even longer, but this is just a basic thought. I drive by there a lot and I often see cars charging. It makes sense when I relate it to these numbers.
From 10/19/25 - 11/1/25 that single handle (and maybe the CHAdeMO plug) put out 284.77 kWh/day. Figuring it at the max of 62.5kW that means it was cranking away over 4.5 hours per day for those 2 weeks.
Doing some simple math that CPE250 COULD put out 1500kWh/day (24 hours x 62.5 kW). So it was being used almost 20% of the day (18.98% to be exact) over those 2 weeks. I'm not a charging network usage expert, but that sounds like some good use.
So that handle did yeoman's work. I say - You've earned your rest, good sir.
I hope that cable/handle (whatever they choose to replace) ends up in the Wisconsin Charging Hall of Fame (fictitious place, but the sentiment is sincere).
BTW - I would LOVE to have that piece of history if it became available. Let me know!
And MG&E - how about a 2nd CPE250 there? Or even a couple ExpressPlus machines? I think we see (above) the usage would support more infrastructure there.
If you've charged at that machine, or any paid Chargepoint dispenser, you can find the stats under the Activity Tab. Each charging stop entry generates a receipt. At the bottom of the receipt it should say: Station Energy Meter (kWh) and there's your usage number at that point.
The oldest receipt I have from a paid session is 11/19/2017 at the Madison Parking Ramp at 318 W. Mifflin St. A LVL 2 charger had dispensed 501.8091 kWh back then at 6.6kW. The free sessions don't seem to generate receipts, so I can't find numbers from those plug ins.
Let me know if you've got any sessions between 11/9/25 and 11/23/25 at the Home Depot charger with stats available. I'd love to be able to add numbers to my spreadsheet. I don't know exactly when they replaced the meter yet, so I can't keep up the historic count exactly. Also, if you want to send the numbers in - I just want the date and the last Station Energy Meter number listed - not your entire receipt (see the pic).
You can email me: contact@WisconsEV.com
I'll see you at the next charge! Just not at the Home Depot in Madison...until it gets fixed.
Great first charge in Lake Delton this morning. Kwik Charge is open! My car went from 43-80% in about 23 minutes in 35 degree temps. Thank you preconditioning button in my Equinox. NEVI station number 12 is ready to charge.
Station visit coming soon. We even tested a charge using apple pay for you never-appers out there.
Also, I spied with my little eyes 5 boxed up Alpitronic Hyperchargers at the IONNA station. Very busy over there this morning. Lots of work being done to get that station closer to opening. I’m hopeful that it’ll open before the end of the year. But the cold weather is here, so we will have to see. I believe concrete and cold weather aren’t the best of friends, but I don’t work in construction so let me know in the comments what can be done at 35 degrees if you know.
