The WisconsEV channel covering all things electric vehicles in Wisconsin. From DC Fast Charging station visits to show you where to charge your EV. To touring the Badger state in your electric vehicle. To news and events to keep you informed.
Winter and Construction...our two seasons in the upper midwest. Well, Kwik Charge built during the winter, tossing that on its ear this year. And they're obviously not done.
Wausau and Bonduel hit the NEVI dashboard today as "Under Construction". I expect one other site to hit the dashboard very soon as well.
That gives us 9 NEVI sites that are moving towards chargers in the ground across the state right now.
What does "under construction" mean?
The WisDOT has approved their paperwork for the sites. And NOW they can begin the process of scheduling the crews, preparing the site, installing the equipment, commissioning the charging equipment and then FINALLY open them to the public. (That's a very overly-simplified timeline)
As we have seen at the other 7 "under construction" NEVI locations that have been sitting for a while with nothing going on, it's just a step in the process.
So 3 (soon 4) in Wisconsin "under construction" (Crivitz is on that board, as well) and 3 in Minnesota (Lake Elmo, Forest Lake, Moose Lake) a little closer to the end goal.
17 Kwik Charge stations now open. I'd guess that without any big delays (transformers don't grow on trees) it could be up to 24 by the end of July...maybe August?
Updated Kwik Charge Map also included for those tracking.
It was great to see so many members of the Wisconsin EV community come out (THANK YOU!). Super Shout Out to all my channel viewers and subscribers who let me know how many Wisconsin locals watch my channel!
We got to see some decked out @Rivian R1Ss. Got to watch an @harleydavidson e-bike charge and have some great conversations.
I brought out my adapter buffet and answered a lot of questions about the Lectron, A2Z, Amphenol and Volvo/Tesla DC adapters and some of the AC choices too. We also talked about other equipment, charging and our varied ownership experiences.
I saw a ton of EVs (besides the ones above) - Ford F-150 (getting it's first DCFC), Genesis GV60, a bunch of Chevy Bolts, a bunch of Hyundai Ioniq 5s and 6s, Kia EV6, a beautiful blue Polestar 2, Chevy EquinoxEVs, Cadillac Optiq, Rivian R1Ts, a Tesla Model S, Toyota bz and probably a bunch more that I am now forgetting (it was a long day).
Thanks to everyone that came out! Videos to come, including my maiden charge in Pewaukee!
Got to drive a Lucid Air and sat in a Gravity for the first time when I was down in Chicago for the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament. My favorite part was toasting a Porsche off the line at a stoplight. I got up to 40 a lot faster than they did...and I enjoyed it...a lot. Might have video of it coming soon...
I'm heading to the EVCS expo in Las Vegas this week. If there are any questions you have or things you want me to check out - let me know!
I'm not exactly sure what content I'll bring back, but I'm looking forward to seeing some cool gear and learning more about the charging industry.
I'm renting a Polestar 2, so I'll be checking out the Vegas charging scene as well. More visit videos in far off places coming soon!
If you're going to be there as well, let me know. Let's connect!
NEVI/WEVI update. The Edgerton site has been open for a little bit. I charged there on the way down to Illinois last week. Pics below. Video coming (hopefully) this week.
That site gave Wisconsin 15 LIVE NEVI supported charging sites.
WELL, now we've got our sweet-16 open for business at the Potawatomi Fireside Market up in Crandon.
In doing some research - Wisconsin is 3rd currently in active NEVI sites. Ohio is just ahead with 19 active sites. Pennsylvania is way out in front with 28. New York is 4th with 14. Texas with 10 rounds out the top 5. Regionally, Michigan has 3 active sites. Minnesota just opened their 2nd. Iowa and Illinois have zero active NEVI sites.
Within the next 30 days Kwik Trip should be activating a few more Kwik Charge locations in the state, there are 5 under construction right now, so Wisconsin could move into 2nd place in NEVI activations before springtime settles in.
Got my Rivian R2 moment this week! No not driving it. I was in Illinois for the Badger-Illini basketball game and stayed in Normal overnight. Went to the Rivian factory and they have a pre-production model sitting in the lobby.
While there, I also did a Demo drive of an R1T for the first time. Yes, you can do a demo drive from the factory. My reaction to driving the R1T - MAN it has some pick up. I understand how people burn through tires on a car with that much HP. Reminded me of driving the Volvo C40, but with 200 extra HP. Very cool hands-free driving like Supercruise. I can't justify the spend on a new one. Yet! Come on Monetization! But my ears are up and eyes peeled for a used one that's a little closer to my normal price range.
Seeing even the pre-production R2 gave me a much better idea of the size of it. On video and in pics I have a hard time telling exactly how much smaller than a R1S it is. I didn't see it next to any other cars, but it seemed close in size to my EquinoxEV.
Awesome to see it in person.
The factory lobby was pretty cool. The R2 model. Some other displays of motors and pictures. A BUNCH of awards their vehicles have won. A nice little snack and coffee bar. And you can see onto the factory floor. It was TOTALLY worth the extra hours added to my trip.
If you are in the area or passing through Bloomington-Normal I'd definitely recommend making the stop. I booked my demo drive the day before too, so it's never too late to fit it in.
I've got a road trip video coming soon. A couple more IONNA stops to show you...been to 9 rechargeries now. Plus a visit to the newest NEVI station in Wisconsin in Edgerton.
BUT FIRST I'VE GOT TO BREAK SOME NEWS...So watch out for a new video dropping today.
Looking forward to being at the Ionna Rechargery in Lake Delton, WI tomorrow from 11a - 3p. $0.20/kWh deal goes all weekend. We have some giveaways and fun planned. Hope to see you there!

Saw this and had to share…If you’re in the 608, you know.
Also, thanks to everyone who came out to Lake Delton Saturday!
I didn’t get to share my trivia questions with as many visitors as I wanted, too busy chatting, so you’ll see the questions this week on the channel!
We also have some more IONNA swag. So we’ll do some giveaways of that soon too.
