Mr. President was craving āā š āŖ@chilisā¬, so I toasted his takeout and added a veggie to complete the meal. Of course I cooked for him anyway and packed his usual as to go

My parents came to America šŗšø when I was 1. Almost 50 years later, they have raised two children and watched two grandchildren grow up WHILE teaching full time after both earning their Ph.Dās.
Nana and Papa always told us that they wanted to retire in Ghana. Today, with āŖ@Deltaā¬, we made it happen. I booked mom and dad on the FIRST inaugural flight nonstop from Atlanta to Accra. At their age, we donāt want to risk another layover. Just getting here required two emergency bathroom visits, a cane, a wheelchair, and shrink-wrapped bags.
(If you have older international parents, you know the packing struggle is real.)
Welp, Mom and Dad had the red carpet treatment with Sky Priority all the way! The flight attendant even talked to me to make sure their accounts were set up for the free Sky Miles WiFi during a 10 hour overnight flight. Mom and Dad have Premium Select seats with Royal treatment in meals, snacks, amenities, and spacious room to all stretch out.š¬š
Thank you to the lovely gate agent who granted my brother and I gate passes to accompany Mom and Dad all the š¦¼way to the plane through security. Our elders raised us and our job is to make sure they are comfortable in their later years. Itās a Herculean effort, I know. It was all worth it to be showered with āļøwelcomes home as Mom and Dad were whisked away. I stayed at the gate to watch them push off. Last update from Mom, Dad is happy and shaking hands with all the strangers speaking Twi. My job is done. I will see them soon in their own home, in their own country. Amen.

CHEERS to 50 YEARS! Thank you ALL for making my birthday, birth WEEK, and birth MONTH a warm Golden Girls welcome. As I relax into the second half, I canāt help but reflect on what these five decades have taught me:
FIRST Decade: I will forever just be that quirky African born, American raised silly girl. Family is always where it will begin and end with me. Life will take us all through ups and downs and I am so grateful for the head start I was given. I also pray the same innocent childhood for all your children and their children.
SECOND Decade: I will always be that busybody (on the inside) who talks too much, moves too fast, laughs too loud, and smiles too big. With less summers ahead of me than behind, I feel myself slowing down and I donāt want to fight it anymore. Mr. President has insisted I take my seat. So yes, there are so many adventures I hope to explore, but it will be a modest pace that prioritizes peace
THIRD Decade: I have lived, loved, lost, and live to love again. The greatest day happened to me three times. I loved to be a wife and was blessed to create a family. Wherever this second half takes me, I will always be Marcusā and Alexās mom. From every sport, to emergency room visits, parent teacher conference, and teenage mood swings, I am mostly proud of the young men Dave & I raised together. They deserve the best of me.
FOURTH Decade: As the challenges of life set in, I quickly realized what was important, and what wasnāt. I began to re-prioritize the people and projects to bring true fulfillment and real lasting relationships. The world also changed around all of us overnight, my parents got older, and the squeeze of life set in. This is when I remembered who I was, my upbringing and what Iām here for so that I wouldnāt give up or give in to a lie.
FIFTH Decade: In this last trip around the sun, Iāve come back to my first love, who encouraged me to pay it forward to young ladies like me. I will try to live an example that my childrenās children will see one day and be proud of. I love to share recipes, even though Iām stuck fighting my own 25-35 pound battle. I love to support your relationships as I wait to become Mr. Presidentās First Lady when the boys are all up and out. I will continue to share this work, travel, and milestonesā¦maybeā¦as it unfolds.
For now I leave you with blessings and a legacy of love. Whether Iām a glamour girl, or just that girl next door, I will still be Maggie. A little bit more gray, a little more lines, forever fluffy, still smiling. I am happier than Iāve ever been and truly grateful for my good health that has brought me this far. I will take care of my loved ones and take better care of myself along the way. Until then, I canāt wait for the next 50, God willing.

Mr. President took his Golden Girl out to Bistro Niko for 50 the Frenchy way. I enjoyed crusty bread with delectable butter, a smoked salmon pizza, a berry cosmopolitan, the best French onionš„£soup of my life, and hangar steak frites š„©cooked to perfection. āThe chocolate profiteroles by āŖ@buckheadrestaurants⬠were intense and I blew out the candle because my wish šhas already come true. I have you. We braved the cold š¬ļøback home to a beautiful rose bouquet.

Hereās everything that came inside my āŖ@CrackerBarrelOCS⬠Thanksgiving single serving meal. (The extra cinnamon roll pie was a free birthday treat. I know.) I stayed in the car and they just brought it out to me, warm. At home, I kept my PJās on and ate on a tray watching the Macyās parade. It was a quiet day but my way to celebrate
