In 1947, Congress decided communists were hiding messages inside American movies — and Hollywood folded almost immediately.

Ten writers and directors refused to name names. They lost everything: work, income, in some cases their freedom. Then they went underground and kept writing the movies anyway, under fake names and borrowed ones.

Dalton Trumbo won two Academy Awards he couldn't accept. It took Kirk Douglas printing his name on Spartacus in 1960 to break the whole thing open.

Ep. 10 next: a broke industry, a malfunctioning mechanical shark, and the birth of the summer blockbuster.

Follow so you catch it.

Everything I saw in theatres this month, ranked and reviewed. One 4.5, two perfect 5s, and a rom-com I'd happily watch again.

The definitive ranking of the best men on television, as decided by my husband, who has never once been asked for his opinion on this and offered it anyway.
.
.
He argued for Rip Wheeler at number one for eleven minutes. His entire case was "he'd do anything for her." That's it. That's the whole argument. Somehow it worked.
.
.
Andrei broods, Derek supports, Declan quits jobs on principle, Spencer crosses oceans. Rip says "yes ma'am" and apparently that beats all of them.
.
.
Who did he miss? He's ready to defend this list. Please don't encourage him.

How movies went from silent black and white to colourful talkies 🎬🍿🎥 within just 12 years, Hollywood developed the technology to record sound with moving pictures AND add colour to the world of black and white. MGM was one of the first studios to use the technicolor camera in The Wizard of Oz in 1939, when just 12 years earlier, the first talking film came to screen.

Let me know who you would be rooting for! Personally, I stand with Paramount ONLY because they will continue theatrical releases, where Netflix is historically anti-cinema!
