Mommy woke me up at midnight to have ozōni, a Japanese New Year tradition. Moments like these remind me of what truly matters. I am grateful for my mom, who makes the holidays so special, and for my Japanese culture and heritage—for these moments and for traditions that become more meaningful as the years go on.
