Following the tragic fatal shooting of 13-year-old Sanjay Samuel in Queens, New York, his family made the courageous decision to donate his organs, which ultimately saved the lives of five people.

On the morning of September 22, 2025, Samuel was shot in the head outside a Dunkin' Donuts in Cambria Heights while on his way to school.
He was rushed to a local hospital and placed on life support, but after doctors determined there was no brain activity, he was pronounced dead two days later.

A 16-year-old suspect has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The confrontation, which began with an argument and a physical scuffle, is believed to be gang-related.

Despite their grief, Samuel's family consented to organ donation.

The non-profit organization LiveOnNY recovered his organs, which went on to save the lives of five people across the country, including a 13-year-old boy who received his heart.

His other organs were transplanted to the following individuals:

A 15-year-old received his liver.
Two adults in their 50s received his lungs, pancreas, and a kidney.

Samuel has since been remembered as a "hero" by the president of LiveOnNY for giving the gift of life to others.

The Colleton County Coroner’s Office has identified the young boy who died last week in what authorities are calling a homicide by child abuse. Four-year-old Ki’zadyn Shuler, known affectionately as “Zae,” died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck, according to Coroner Richard Harvey.

His mother, 25-year-old Francesca Michelle Shuler, and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Kasiem Rashawn Stephens, have been charged with homicide by child abuse in connection with his death. Sheriff’s Lt. Tyger Benton said the two were arrested Thursday evening, about four hours after Ki’zadyn was rushed to Colleton County Medical Center.

Deputies reported that the child arrived at the hospital unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. Arrest warrants also revealed the boy suffered multiple cuts and bruises across his body. “This was a tragic incident happening to a child like this,” said Ki’zadyn’s uncle, Philip Shuler. “It’s definitely, definitely shocking. Shocking and hurting.”

He described the past week as incredibly difficult for the family. Family members remembered Ki’zadyn as a playful and affectionate boy who loved being outdoors. “Every time we would come, he would run up to the car and say Hey! Hey!” his aunt, Joanna Shuler, recalled. “He would ask about the puppies.” Philip added, “[He was] very loving and playful. He was just innocent and happy.”

Both suspects were denied bond on Friday afternoon on the homicide by child abuse charge. They were also each given a $150,000 bond on an additional charge of unlawful neglect involving Francesca Shuler’s six-year-old daughter, Ki’zadyn’s sister. Philip said he has not yet spoken to his sister, but struggled to believe she could harm her child.

An investigation is underway after the decomposed body of a 15-year-old girl, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, was discovered in an impounded Tesla registered to singer d4vd. As of September 28, 2025, d4vd is reportedly cooperating with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and is not named as a suspect or person of interest.

Timeline :
August 2025: The Tesla, registered to the singer whose real name is David Anthony Burke, is abandoned on a street in the Hollywood Hills. Neighbors complain about the car, which is parked there for an extended period.

September 8, 2025: The car is towed to an impound lot. A tow yard worker reports a foul smell coming from the trunk. The LAPD investigates and discovers a heavily decomposed body wrapped in a bag.

September 16, 2025: The body is identified as Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a teenager who had been reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, in April 2024.

September 17, 2025: LAPD detectives, including the Robbery-Homicide Division, serve a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills home where d4vd had been staying. They seize a computer and other electronics.

September 18, 2025: News breaks connecting the car and deceased girl to d4vd. His representatives state that he is cooperating with authorities.

September 20–25, 2025: d4vd cancels the remainder of his world tour. Corporations like Crocs, Hollister, and his record label, Universal Music Group/Interscope, suspend promotional material featuring him. d4vd reportedly breaks his lease and moves out of his rental home.

September 23, 2025: The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner releases Celeste Rivas Hernandez's remains to her family. Her hometown holds a vigil.

September 28, 2025: The cause of death is still "deferred," pending further investigation.

Both Celeste Rivas Hernandez and d4vd had a tattoo that read "Shhh" on their right index finger.

Friends of d4vd told TMZ that they believed Rivas was his 19-year-old college student girlfriend. However, Rivas was only 15 when her body was found, and she would have been 13 or 14 when they were allegedly dating. Her mother told TMZ her daughter was dating someone named David before she went missing, but she had never met him.

Following the news, resurfaced interviews and lyrics, particularly from his song "Romantic Homicide," led to intense online speculation. d4vd had previously described how his lyrics were part of a manga he created about a detective with a murderous alter ego named "Itami".

As of late September 2025, the investigation is active and police have not named any suspects.

More than two weeks after a deadly mass shooting at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, we’re getting more good news about the last hospitalized victim.

Hennepin Healthcare officials confirmed to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that 12-year-old Sophia Forchas is improving and had her condition upgraded from critical to serious.

Of course, she still has a long road ahead, but the upgrade in condition is the latest ray of hope for the girl and her family.

The update also comes just a week after her surgeon admitted the severity of her condition and said, “she may be the third fatality of this event.”

The Forchas family has remained steadfast in its belief that Sophia will pull through and released a new statement on Friday, calling her “a warrior” and her improvement “a miracle.”

“Two weeks ago, our beloved Sophia suffered a devastating gunshot wound to the head. Doctors warned us she was on the brink of death. In that darkest hour, the world responded with faithful devotion and fervent prayer. We thank you for all the prayers, love, and unwavering support from across the globe.

“Last week, rays of hope emerged. Dr. Walt Galicich shared that Sophia was showing signs of resilience. Wednesday, the hospital upgraded her condition from critical to serious. She is now off the breathing tube and able to breathe on her own. Her progress to this point is being called miraculous. We are calling it a miracle.

“The road ahead for Sophia is steep, but she is climbing it with fierce determination. She is fighting not just for herself, but for every soul who stood by her in prayer.

“Please continue to keep Sophia in your hearts and prayers. She is a warrior! And she is winning!!

“With gratitude,
“The Family of Sophia Forchas.”

Sophia’s mother is a pediatric critical care nurse at Hennepin Healthcare and arrived to help with the mass casualty incident, not yet aware that her daughter was one of the victims. Sophia was shot in the head and had a bullet lodged in her right occipital lobe. Part of Sophia’s skull was removed to give her brain room to swell, which has also improved the pressure in her brain.
