Sara Walker is one of my favorite guest in Lex's podcast, love to listen to Lee Cronin (a biochemist) as well, they articulate their ideas so well, both are great science communicators . at around 43:44 , she made me laugh hard, she mentioned about we like to get traumatized/being afraid, we like to learn more about the world and once we do, it traumatized us, coming to understand new ideas which you never understood before is a thrilling experience, totally agreed and could relate to this.

a few notes on memory after hearing most part of talk of Lex's interesting interview with Charan Ranganath: (https://youtu.be/4iuepdI3wCU?si=TK-Q4...)
“experiencing self” vs the “remembering self” , terms from Daniel Kahneman
The experiencing self knows only the present moment. The remembering self is a storyteller (“that was a good hike”; “that was a bad flight”), and it can dictate our actions when we think of the future as an anticipated memory (“that will be a fun trip”).
fulfillment/satisfaction/happiness in life can come down to having a rich remembering self, and that this richness sometimes requires experiencing some pain, discomfort, or an effort of some kind. -- a comment
memory is about understanding present and predicting future , not about past, unless something useful about past
how do we have memorable life , vacation to interesting places, those are things
you remember , experiencing self may suffer, remembering self will be happy
the stories we remember are changes , significant moments , beginning and endings. All the in-between is lost to time. the mundane experiences are swept away by the brain to make room for new and potentially interesting memories

Volunteered at library book sales today, working as a floor person, found a beautiful quote by Alfred North Whitehead (a Mathematician and philosopher )
" We think of ourselves as so intimately entwined in bodily life that a man is a complex unity - body and mind .
But the body is part of the external world, continuous with it. In fact, it is just as much part of nature as anything else there - a river,
a mountain or a cloud. Also if we are fussily exact, we can not define where a body begins and where external nature ends "
