Jayne Corner - The Calm and Happy Gut
There’s a point where it stops feeling like you’re just being careful… and starts feeling like your whole day is being quietly managed around your gut.
You check.
You plan.
You avoid.
You try to stay one step ahead of it.
And it makes sense why.
Because when you’ve had moments where your body has caught you off guard… when you’ve felt that urgency rise out of nowhere… when there’s even a small fear of not making it in time… of being stuck somewhere without a toilet… of that feeling of losing control…
Of course you start doing whatever you can to prevent that from happening again.
The problem is — your nervous system is always learning from what you do.
So every time you double-check, delay, avoid, or play it safe, your brain doesn’t think:
“I’m just being prepared.”
It learns:
“This situation must not be safe.”
And from there, everything follows.
The thoughts get louder.
The body gets more alert.
The gut becomes more reactive.
Not because something is wrong…
But because your system has been trained to stay on guard.
This is one of the most common patterns I see with IBS — and also one of the most important to understand.
Because once you see it, you can start to shift it.
Not by forcing yourself or pushing through…
But by gently helping your body relearn what actually is safe again.
And that’s where things begin to change.
If you’re ready to start working on this in a way that feels calm, structured, and supportive, comment TRIAL and I’ll send you access to a free 7-day trial inside the Calm Gut App.
You don’t have to keep living around your symptoms.

There’s a moment people don’t talk about with IBS.
It’s not the flare.
It’s not the urgency.
It’s not even the anxiety at its peak.
It’s the calm… that you don’t quite trust.
The days where your body is actually okay, but you still feel slightly on edge.
Where you catch yourself checking in, scanning, preparing—without meaning to.
And it can feel confusing, because part of you thinks:
“Why can’t I just enjoy this?”
But this isn’t you doing something wrong.
This is what happens when your nervous system has learned, over time, that symptoms can come on quickly… unpredictably… and at the worst moments.
So even when nothing is happening, your body stays just a little bit alert.
Not fully in fight or flight—but not fully settled either.
And here’s the important part:
That low-level “watching” state…
That subtle tension…
That constant checking…
It doesn’t just come from IBS.
It can quietly keep the cycle going.
Because your brain is still sending signals of “potential threat,”
and your gut is responding accordingly.
This is the gut–brain connection in action.
Not dramatic. Not obvious. But powerful.
And this is why healing IBS isn’t just about reducing symptoms.
It’s about rebuilding trust in your body.
Learning how to feel safe even when things are going well.
Learning how to stop monitoring every sensation.
Learning how to let calm feel… steady.
That’s the shift.
And it’s something you can train.
If this resonates, comment SUPPORT and I’ll send you the 7-day free trial to The Calm Gut app, where I guide you through this step by step.

Do you struggle with reflux, heartburn, throat clearing, bloating, nausea, chest discomfort, a lump-in-the-throat sensation, or symptoms that seem to flare more during stress or anxiety?
I’m excited to be speaking at the Reflux Online Summit on May 27th, where I’ll be talking about gut-directed hypnotherapy, the brain-gut connection, and why the mind may play a far bigger role in digestive symptoms than many people realise.
My session is called:
Gut Directed Hypnotherapy: The Mind is Stronger Than We Think
We’ll explore:
• The gut-brain axis and reflux symptoms
• Stress, hypervigilance and nervous system activation
• Why symptoms can persist even when tests look “normal”
• How gut-directed hypnotherapy and CBT approaches may help calm the system
The summit includes free access to my talk plus 50+ expert speakers covering reflux, digestion, nutrition, lifestyle and healing approaches.

Most people with IBS aren’t just dealing with symptoms.
They’re dealing with a constant stream of “what if” thoughts running quietly in the background.
What if I can’t find a bathroom.
What if this gets worse.
What if I embarrass myself.
What if I can’t cope.
And over time, these thoughts don’t just stay as thoughts…
they start shaping how your body responds.
Because your nervous system is always listening.
It doesn’t wait for something to go wrong.
It responds to what it thinks might go wrong.
So even when you’re technically “fine”…
your body can still feel on edge, reactive, or urgent —
because it’s been trained to expect a problem.
This is why IBS can feel so unpredictable.
Not because your body is broken,
but because it’s learned to associate certain situations, thoughts, and sensations with danger.
And once that loop is in place,
your attention naturally starts to narrow in on your gut…
you check more, analyse more, brace more…
which unintentionally keeps the cycle going.
This isn’t something you’re doing wrong.
It’s something your brain has learned to do to protect you.
But the good news is — what’s learned can be unlearned.
When you start calming your nervous system and gently shifting these patterns,
your body begins to feel safer again.
And that’s often when symptoms start to settle too.
If this resonated with you, you’re not alone — this is exactly what I help you work through on this channel and inside the Calm Gut app.
If you'd like to go deeper and explore the app, comment SUPPORT and I’ll send you access to get started.

Anxiety doesn’t just affect your mind — it can show up very clearly in your gut.
And often, it’s not obvious.
It can look like sensitivity, urgency, bloating, or that constant awareness of your body.
Not because something is wrong…
But because your system has been under pressure.
Which of these have you noticed in your own experience?
And if you’d like support with this,
comment TRIAL and I’ll send you a link to start your free 7-day trial.

✨ New session just dropped on the channel
🔮 Snow Globe Mind: Calming Overthinking and Letting Thoughts Settle
If your mind has been feeling busy lately — caught in loops of worry, "what if" thinking, or just struggling to switch off — this one's for you.
In this session, we use the snow globe as a guide. When the mind is overactive, it can feel like someone has shaken the globe — thoughts swirling everywhere, making it hard to see clearly. But just like a snow globe, when you stop trying to force things and simply allow stillness... the thoughts begin to settle on their own. 🌿
This session helps you:
💭 Step out of overthinking patterns
🧠 Observe thoughts without getting caught up in them
🫁 Gently regulate your nervous system
✨ Return to clarity — without force or effort
You don't need to stop your thoughts. You just need to let the snow settle.
