The Crab Nebula is the remnant of a massive star that ended its life in a spectacular supernova. Located about 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Taurus, this nebula is one of the most studied objects in the sky due to its extreme energy and rapid expansion.
At the center lies the Crab Pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star that rotates about 30 times per second, flooding the nebula with intense radiation and powering its glowing filaments. The nebula itself is a chaotic mix of ionized gases, shock waves, and high-energy particles, creating intricate structure in both broadband and narrowband images.

The Northern Lagoon Nebula (NGC 7538)
Located about 9,100 light-years away in Cepheus, NGC 7538 is a stunning emission and reflection nebula often nicknamed the Northern Lagoon Nebula for its resemblance to the famous Lagoon Nebula in Sagittarius. It’s a massive stellar nursery filled with glowing hydrogen gas, dark dust lanes, and clusters of newborn stars, including one of the largest known protostars in our galaxy.
