Headline: Mirror Polish vs. Toothy Edge — What’s your pick? 🧐
We just wrapped up the first round of testing on the WE KNIFE Seer (CPM 20CV). Sharpened at 20° per side with a 3000-grit JIS mirror finish, it only managed 36 cuts on the 1-inch jute rope.
While it looks beautiful and glides through paper, that high polish seemed to "soap" (slip) on the tough fibers of the rope.
Next up in the workshop:
I’m taking this same Seer back to the stones to apply a coarse 120-200 grit finish. We’re keeping the 20° angle to see exactly how much "bite" affects edge retention on this powder steel.
Quick comparison so far:
Mirror Finish (3000 Grit): 36 cuts
Coarse Finish (Target): Can we hit 50+ cuts?
