This channel is about using technology more deliberately.

I review e-ink tablets, digital notebooks, everyday carry tech and the tools that promise to make work feel calmer and more organised. But the real question is not whether a device has the best specs. It is whether it actually helps you think clearly, keep track of your work, and spend less time fighting your own systems.

I’m especially interested in tools for people who read, write, teach, plan, research, make things, or just feel a bit buried under tabs, apps, files and notifications.

The aim is simple: to help you choose better tools, build better workflows, and create a quieter place for your thinking.

These are affiliate links as you'll probably be aware of by now, it's a great way that creators can earn small commissions to keep making videos for you. Which is like a famous saying really isn't it, we don't make videos to make money, we make money so we can make more videos.... Makes sense. Cheers.

So HiBreak Dual 2 is on the way from Bigme, and I wonder, what are your opinions on the Hyper refresh mode that they've added in their recent flagships?
https://youtu.be/tGeWN2kVLFk

That's right 80FPS on e-ink I don't think any of us thought it was possible.

Bigme have sent me some links for secret extra $25 discount pledges if you were thinking of backing their HiBreak Dual 2!

No commission for me on these links I don't think, but I thought them worth sharing with you, and I expect that Bigme are tracking where referals come from, just so you are aware!

If you are like me you'll be hungry to know more about how the Modos flow has managed to make the e-ink refresh so quickly and look so good. So here's another video, I've stumbled upon as to how the project has been brought about so successfully.

Cheers to you all.

One thing you can say is that Bigme are working hard to give people what they want here. We were all a little shocked by the LCD screen on the HiBreak Dual, and so they immediately put this one into development.

Two observations I have, from the images, it doesn't look like the LCD will protrude quite as much as we maybe first thought. And secondly... where is the weirdly mishapen pen going to sit in this case... it seems the answer will be loosely in your pocket.

Kickstarter page:
www.kickstarter.com/projects/bigme/worlds-first-la…

Spec highlights:

• 6.13-inch E Ink display on the front
• 5-inch colour LCD display on the back
• Colour E Ink and monochrome E Ink versions available
• E Ink refresh rate of up to 80FPS
• MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor
• Android 16
• 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, or 16GB RAM with 512GB storage
• Dual 5G SIM support
• Stylus support
• 30W fast charging
• Protective case included
• Effective launch pricing from $544.50, depending on discounts and cashback

As always, remember that Kickstarter projects are not finished retail products. Bigme has a good track record of bringing devices to market, but you are still pledging to support someone’s entrepreneurial ambitions rather than buying a completed product in the usual sense.

Only pledge what you can afford to lose.

I’d be interested to hear what you think. Is the LCD screen the missing piece for an E Ink phone, or does the dual-screen design make the whole thing unnecessarily complicated?

Well, Bigme are doing it again. This time with more RAM, storage, and the Dimensity 8300. And importantly an LCD screen which could actually be useful.

The HiBreak Dual 2 is launching on Kickstarter today. And I would love to hear what you think. It's going to be similar to this, but with a rectagular LCD screen. And in their launch video, you can see home screen with apps, so I'm hopeful it will be more than sharing an app to the screen one at a time.

Just remember all the usual warnings about kickstarters not being complete products. Bigme have a good track record of bringing products to market, but you still should be aware that you are pledging to make someones entrepreneurial ambitions a reality, not shopping per ce. It's wise to only pledge what you can afford to loose.

I bet they abandon the e-ink screen this time around. I don't want that, but they really didn't get the ePaper right last time, it's more of a technical challenge than I think they expected.
What do you all think?
And what would you want it to be?

Win Max 3 announced today.
Headline specs are Ryzen AI Max+ 395 or 388 with the 8060s iGPU. Should be banging.
Modular battery and this odd looking fan unit stuck on the front.
9.06" AMOLED 165Hz 2400 × 1504 HDR10 screen. Amaze.
No Occulink or MCIO listed, so USB 4 is the best you are getting there. It does have mini ssd rather than the little NVMe slot this time.

Nice. Not what I predicted.

The last B251 colour e-ink monitor was pretty good. And now they are back with a 60 FPS version. It could be even more usable and give you those moments of rest from your LCD or OLEDs.

Looks like pre-order is only around 10 days before they start shipping which is pretty cool!
