Zalzaal Lake also known as Chikkar Lake is almost 3.5 Kilometer long and 350 Feet deep. The lake was created after the earthquake of 8th October 2005, when a mountain slid into the valley blocking the way of the river. Five villages were downed in the water, which caused 575 people's deaths and in the two years this huge lake was created, now there is an exit for the overflowing water.
Lake is near Chikkar in the Jhelum Valley. This beautiful summer station at a distance of 46 Km from Muzaffarabad is situated on top of the mountain on the southern side of Muzaffarabad.
A road branches off at Dhanni Baqallan, about 33 kilometres from Muzaffarabad and leads to Chikkar at an elevation of 1828 meters. The outstanding features of this beautiful place are its healthy climate and picturesque surroundings. Standing over the hill one can have a fascinating view of the sub-valleys.
