English Exams
Are you ready for your "Today's Question"? (Level: Proficiency)
In part 1, You are given a short text with eight gaps. For each gap, you should choose one word out of four A, B, C or D. This task checks your knowledge of collocations, prepositions, and set phrases. Many of the suggested answers are correct grammatically. The right answer also has to be semantically right — it has to make sense and fit the context of the whole text.
Having finished the task, you should read it once again with all the missing words in place. If something sounds or feels wrong, it will probably become noticeable after you read through the text. For each correct answer, you will be awarded 1 point. Now look at the example below:
Ex: One key aspect is the integration of green spaces, which (Q) _____ residents' well-being and biodiversity.
A enhance B improve C boost D elevate
Now, the choice comes down to collocation and tone. While Enhance (“make something better in quality or more effective”) collocates perfectly with both residents’ well-being and biodiversity, especially in a formal or academic context,
Boost and elevate sound much less natural with these nouns in this style of writing.
Improve is grammatically possible, but it’s more general and less idiomatic here, and it doesn’t fit the slightly more formal tone of the sentence as well as enhance does. So the answer is A. Now it's your turn:
Overwhelming and fascinating in equal (Q)_______, Danakil Desert is quite unlike anywhere else in Africa.
A) footing
B) measure
C) fairness
D) weight

How to answer multiple choice tasks (Use of English and Reading) in CAE Exam?
Hello students, In the first part of Use of English and Reading section you will be give a short text with 8 gaps. For each gap, you should choose one word out of four choices. In you mainly need to focus on vocabulary, collocations, set phrases and phrasal verbs. Here are some tips to help you succeed
1- It is necessary to read the text first to get a general understanding of the text before focusing on the gaps and attempting to answer any questions. Sometimes an understanding of the wider context is essential in order to choose the correct word.
2- A key tactic in this exercise is to look for clues and hints around each gap. Pay particular attention to the words before and after each gap as these words are often part of a set phrase and will help you decide which of the choice of four choices is the correct one.
3- After filling in the gaps, read the entire text again to ensure the chosen words fit grammatically and collocates well with surrounding words.
4- If you find it difficult to make a choice, Narrow down your choices by eliminating options that are clearly incorrect.
Now let’s move to Part 5;
Part 5 is all about getting a good grasp of a long text, including details, opinions, tone, purpose, main ideas, implications, attitudes, and text organization features such as the use of examples, comparisons, and references. Here are some tips to help you succeed:
1- Before diving into the text, read the questions and the multiple-choice options first. This will give you an idea of what to look for in the text and make your reading more focused and efficient, as you won’t waste time on irrelevant details.
2- The questions generally follow the order of the text. This means that the answer to the first question will usually be found earlier in the text than the answer to the second question, and so on. Moreover, each question is usually linked to a paragraph. This can help you locate the relevant information more efficiently as you read through the passage.
3- While you are reading, make sure to highlight keywords and phrases in both the questions and the text that are crucial for understanding the context and finding the correct answers. Pay attention to the context around the keywords. This will help you understand the nuances and implications of the text.
4- The correct answer might not use the exact words from the text but could be a synonym or a paraphrase. Look for similar meanings and don’t choose an answer simply because a word in the question appears in the text. Examples of this can sometimes distract you from the correct answer.
5- Finally, narrow down your choices by eliminating options that are clearly incorrect and always refer back to the text to confirm your answers. This will ensure that the option you are about to choose is supported by the text.
Example:
Question: What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A) The author describes the historical significance of color.
B) The author explains the scientific basis of color perception.
C) The author discusses the cultural impact of color.
D) The author critiques modern interpretations of color.
Steps:
1- Skim the first paragraph to get a general idea.
2- Underline keywords like “historical significance,” “scientific basis,” “cultural impact,” and “modern interpretations.”
Refer back to the text to see which option is best supported by the content.
3- Eliminate options that do not match the text’s main idea.
By following these steps and practicing regularly, you’ll improve your ability to answer multiple choice questions effectively in the CAE exam. Like, share and write your questions in the comments section! see you guys next time!

English Exams
Hello, dear students! Today, we’ll explore Use of English part 2 in #CAE and FCE exams. In this section, you’ll find a short text with eight gaps. Your task is to complete each gap with only one word. There’s an example at the beginning of the text. Remember that each word can be used only once! If at any point, You think one of your answers can be used a second time, That means that you have made mistake.
This task assesses your knowledge of collocations, prepositions, and set phrases. While many of the potential words are correct grammatically, the right answer must also be semantically appropriate—it should make sense and fit the context of the entire text.
After completing the task, I recommend reading through it again with all the missing words in place. If something sounds or feels wrong, it will likely become noticeable during your review. For each correct answer, you’ll receive 1 point, allowing you to earn up to 8 points in Part 2.
Look at the following example.
Veuve Clicquot has now introduced a new award (0)......... to complement its Business Woman of the Year category.
The correct answer is.... TO!
The word “to” indicates purpose or intention. In this context, the new award is introduced with the specific purpose of complementing the existing Business Woman of the Year category. Moreover, The preposition “to” connects the award to its purpose, emphasizing that it is designed to enhance or complete the existing category.
Now it's your turn! :-) look at the following exercise!
Founded in 1972, the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award is celebrated in 27 countries. Veuve Clicquot has now introduced a new award *TO* complement its Business Woman of the Year category. Called The New Generation Award, (Q).......... recognises the best young female talent across business and corporate life.

Hello again dear students! Today, we are going to look at Use of English part 1 in #CAE and FCE exams. In this part, You are given a short text with eight gaps.
I was really happy to learn that I (example) … to get enough points for my scholarship.
Example: A. succeeded B. managed C. failed D. accomplished
the correct answer is : B. managed
"Manage to do something" is a strong collocation and although "succeeded in doing something" is another collocation, it does not fit here because of no preposition.
now it's your turn! choose the best answer A, B, C or D.
Exceptionally talented or just over-confident?
According to a study on what lies at the heart of success, it seems that the key is not what might be expected, (Example) in other words talent, hard work or a good education, but instead it’s total, unadulterated confidence. English Exams
Hello dear students! Today, we are going to have a look at C2 Proficiency test. CPE test is comprised of 4 papers.
Paper 1 Use of English and Reading,
Paper 2 Writing
Paper 3 Listening
Paper 4 Speaking
Now, Let's have a look at Use of English and Reading part 5. Part 5, the first of the reading parts in the Reading and Use of English paper in the C2 Proficiency exam, is the multiple choice reading comprehension section where you must choose the correct answer out of four possible answers.
Candidates are expected to read the text to grasp precisely what the writer is conveying, discern between similar viewpoints or reasons in the options, and understand text organization features like exemplification and comparison. there are 6 questions from which, you'd get 2 points for each correct answer and 12 points in total. Remember These questions are supposed to test a detailed understanding of the text, including the writer's opinions and attitudes.
Always start with the questions first, not the options, before you read the passage. Highlight the key words in the questions and consider an answer by only looking at the question stem. Then start reading the text and underline the part of the text that gives the answer and comparing this with the options. Now, Look at the example below!
**** ****
"A new wave of music and arts projects has emerged, focusing on someone who may seem for some a dubious source of inspiration. Imelda Marcos, former first lady of the Philippines, is currently becoming the subject of musicals, song cycles and shows on a worldwide arena.
When the Marcos regime collapsed in 1986, and Imelda and her husband Ferdinand were exiled in Hawaii, they carried with them allegations of embezzlement, corruption and human rights abuses. Imelda had spent the last twenty years living off a seemingly endless supply of funds, living an exotic and glamorous lifestyle and rubbing shoulders with powerful figures worldwide. In 1972, when the superstar couple’s popularity was fading and they were at risk of losing their power, Ferdinand Marcos instated martial, leading to an era of chaos and plunder, and what is described by some as the second most corrupt regime of the twentieth century. Ferdinand and Imelda fled in 1986 to escape the People’s Power Revolution, Imelda leaving behind some 2000 pairs of shoes."
Q: Why are Imelda’s shoes mentioned in the second paragraph?
A To illustrate how little she cared for her personal possessions
B To illustrate her love of fashion and beauty
C To indicate how quickly she had to flee the country
D To illustrate the extravagance of her lifestyle
**** ****
Remember have a look at the question stem but skip the Options! what are the key words in the question?
1- Imelda's shoes 2- the second paragraph. based on these key parts of the question now we know we must look for the writer's reason for mentioning "Imelda's shoes". Moreover, the question specifically tells us that we can find the answer in paragraph 2! now read the 2nd paragraph and choose the best answer A, B, C or D! you now have 4 minutes to read the paragraph and choose the best answer!
(read and answer the questions: 4 minutes)
So, now let's have a look at these two sentences from paragraph 2:
- Imelda had spent the last twenty years living off a seemingly endless supply of funds, living an exotic and glamorous lifestyle and rubbing shoulders with powerful figures worldwide.
-Ferdinand and Imelda fled in 1986 to escape the People’s Power Revolution, Imelda leaving behind some 2000 pairs of shoes.
according to the text, Imelda knew no boundaries in spending money. in another word, she spent excessively and lacked restraint in spending money. So, Let's have a look at the alternatives.
A To illustrate how little she cared for her personal possessions
B To illustrate her love of fashion and beauty
C To indicate how quickly she had to flee the country
D To illustrate the extravagance of her lifestyle (correct answer)
Extravagance: going beyond a normal limit, excessive... So the CORRECT ANSWER is D.
OK, here's your homework for today. in the attachment, you may find two exercises for Part 5. Spend no more than 15 minutes on each exercise
