We were planning on releasing a new episode of Beef History today, but instead will wait a bit and address what happened last week. On February 11th, our friends and colleagues Steven Godfrey, Tyson Whiting, and Kofie Yeboah were laid off from their jobs at Secret Base.
This is far from the first time we’ve watched the company dismiss our talented and beloved coworkers, but this latest round hits particularly hard, and it’s clear from the response we’ve seen that you, the Secret Base audience, are just as distressed as we are.
Losing them is painful because of how much we’ll miss them and the work they do. It might be a little less painful if we didn’t believe in this thing as much as we do. Ever since we began planning Secret Base five years ago, our goal has been to build something different from anything else you’ve ever seen in sports media. We had no rivals or aspirational peers to measure ourselves against or try to be better than. We simply wanted to make something completely new and unique for you, the audience.
We’re going to continue processing what it’s like to do our jobs without three incredible people that we’ve all considered friends for many, many years. We’re going to keep being fans of theirs, celebrating their achievements whether they be personal or work-related. We hope you will continue doing the same.
Our intention is to keep doing what we originally set out to do. We want to produce videos that we’re proud of, that we hope you enjoy, and that can build a strong enough business that anyone who leaves Secret Base does so because they’ve chosen to.
We love you, thank you for allowing us to do what we do, and we’ll have new videos for you soon.
