Hi All,

Some of you have already noticed a series of new videos that feature landmarks from Uzbekistan. We've visited Uzbekistan at the end of September of this year. Many people have never seen or even haven't heard anything about Uzbekistan so here is a quick summary for those who are interested to learn more about it:

Uzbekistan is considered to be a relatively large country in terms of land area. It is the 56th largest country in the world, covering an area of approximately 448,978 square kilometers (173,351 square miles). To provide some context, this is roughly the size of the state of California in the United States.

However, it's important to note that size alone doesn't always determine a country's significance or influence on the global stage. Uzbekistan's geopolitical importance, historical significance, and cultural heritage contribute to its unique place in the world. Uzbekistan was a key part of the ancient Silk Road, a network of trade routes that connected the East and West. This historical trade route played a crucial role in the exchange of goods, cultures, and ideas.

Much of Uzbekistan is characterized by a desert climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The country is dominated by the Kyzylkum Desert, one of the world's largest sand deserts. The Uzbek language was traditionally written in Arabic script, but in the 1920s, it was switched to Latin script, and later to Cyrillic during the Soviet era. In 1993, Uzbekistan officially adopted a modified version of the Latin alphabet. In modern days, you can speak many languages in popular tourists destinations including Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent which is the capital of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is home to some of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. Samarkand, for example, has been continuously inhabited for over 2,500 years and is known for its stunning architecture, including the Registan Square that we covered in several videos published on our channel.

During our trip we visited the most popular landmarks and attractions which are worth seeing in person:

Bukhara landmarks:

» Poi Kalyan
» The Samanid Mausoleum
» The Ark
» Several madrasahs

Samarkand landmarks:

» The Registan Square
» Amir Temur Mausoleum
» Bibi Khanum Mosque
» St Daniel Park

Tashkent landmarks:

» Minor Mosque
» Tashkent City Park
» Magic City Park
» Milliy Bog Park
» TV Tower
