Zora is a lioness who has spent most of her life in inappropriate private keeping in Czechia. Confined, deprived, and far from the life she deserves ❗

There is finally hope for her: Following her confiscation by the authorities in Czechia, the lioness was transferred to Zoo Liberec as a temporary solution. Authorities have reached out to FOUR PAWS to help find the safe, species-appropriate forever home she deserves. 🐾💚 That is why we are taking action to rescue her, offering Zora the chance of a new life at FELIDA big cat sanctuary💛 Our team visited the lioness you named Zora and assessed her current health and condition at her temporary home at Zoo Liberec where the keepers have been taking great care of Zora. 🐾

The good news is that she appears ready to be transported to FELIDA soon. But Zora’s situation remains especially concerning. She has been declawed, which puts her at an even greater risk and severely impacts her well-being She is also significantly overweight, likely due to inappropriate keeping such as a lack of exercise. Obesity in big cats is a serious welfare issue.💔 It can lead to musculoskeletal problems, organ damage, and an increased risk of disease. This is the reality of private keeping. Big cats are not pets. They need space, specialised care, and environments that meet their complex needs, which private homes simply cannot provide. We will keep you updated every step of the way.

30 big cats. 30 lives waiting for a second chance. Two long-awaited rescues. One extraordinary mission in Argentina. ✨

We have been on-site in former Zoo Luján ever since our first vet check in October of last year. The owner of the former Argentinian zoo voluntarily handed over more than 60 big cats and two bears to us, and over the past few months we have been working incredibly hard to secure a better future for them. Now, we start a new chapter!

In the upcoming weeks, we will have not one, but two rescues happening in Argentina! One of our most ambitious missions yet begins!

Our goal:

🦁 15 big cats relocated to our own LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa.

🐅 15 big cats relocated to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado, USA.

Bringing these animals to species-appropriate and spacious sanctuaries where they can receive comprehensive veterinary care and experience a quality of life, they have never had before.

We’ll take you behind the scenes of these massive rescues - from preparations and on-site content to the long journey toward their new homes.

He was exploited as a crowd-puller at a zoo in Germany, where visitors could have their photos taken with him. 📸
We are so glad Bakari was rescued and living his best life at our LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary.
Did you know that leopards use their long, powerful tails as natural counterbalances? They rely on them to maintain balance while climbing trees, sprinting at high speeds and even resting on narrow branches. 🌳
Much like a tightrope walker’s pole, a leopard’s tail helps keep its weight centred and reduces the risk of falling. 🐾

Imagine being trapped in a crowded shed, surrounded by thousands of others, with temperatures soaring and no relief from the heat. No shade. No fresh air. No way out. 🔥🌡️

Every summer, farmed animals endure extreme heat stress in intensive farming systems. Packed into confined spaces, many struggle to breathe, collapse from exhaustion and dehydration, and some do not survive. 💔

These animals are not machines. These animals are not machines. They are sentient beings, capable of feeling fear, pain and distress. Yet far too often, their suffering is treated as a cost of doing business. 🐷🐔🐄

🐈 The Tail End of Kuni’s Suffering 🇮🇩

Some animals come to us in heartbreaking condition. Kuni was brought to us by some caring locals. The poor cat was thin, frightened, and trembling with pain. Every small movement made her cry softly. Most shocking was her left leg, which could no longer support her weight. Even worse was her tail, which hung injured behind her, stained with blood and dirt.

Kuni had obviously been the victim of a car accident. 🚗 Cars are among the biggest dangers to stray animals in Indonesia. X-rays revealed a fractured femur in her left hind leg and a badly damaged tailbone. What was astounding was that, despite all the pain she was enduring, Kuni was incredibly friendly—though clearly exhausted. She had probably realised that she was finally safe and about to receive help.

Unfortunately, she still had a long road ahead of her. The pain caused by her tail became so severe that we had to make the difficult decision to amputate it. But this was not the end of her suffering. The next three weeks were a huge challenge, and everyone on our team poured their heart and soul into Kuni’s recovery. ❤️

Then a miracle happened. With all the love and care she received, Kuni grew a little stronger every day. We are beyond happy to say that she is now ready to be adopted and will never have to live alone on the streets again.

Four years ago this June, Nikola began his new chapter with us. 🦁

Now a young male lion, Nikola is still finding his place, but throughout it all, he has remained playful, curious and full of character. 💕

Following the heartbreaking loss of his companion Vasylyna, our dedicated animal caretaker team at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary has been giving Nikola extra attention and enrichment, helping him stay stimulated, confident and content.

One thing is certain: Nikola knows exactly when food is on the way! The moment mealtime approaches, his excitement is impossible to miss. Unsurprisingly, his favourite person tends to be whoever arrives carrying his dinner!

When he's not eagerly awaiting a meal, Nikola enjoys spending his afternoons relaxing. You'll often find him stretched out on his favourite platform, taking in the panoramic views, or snoozing peacefully beneath a tree near his house. 🌳

As winter settles in at LIONSROCK, the cooler temperatures bring out Nikola's playful side. He spends more time exploring his species-appropriate enclosure, climbing, investigating and making the most of the natural surroundings. While he enjoys soaking up the sunshine, he knows exactly when to retreat to a cosy sheltered spot if the wind picks up.

Without a doubt, the highest platform in his enclosure is his favourite place, where he can survey the landscape and enjoy the view like the king he is. 🌄🐾

Most of the Merino wool used by the fashion industry comes from Australia, the world's largest producer of Merino wool. 🐑
Millions of lambs are still subjected to live lamb cutting (aka mulesing) every year – a painful procedure in which strips of skin are cut away from the lambs' hindquarters to reduce the risk of flystrike. 💔
While the practice is carried out to prevent a serious welfare issue, it causes significant pain and distress, and animal welfare organisations have long called for a transition to the available alternatives, including better breeding and improved flock management eliminating flystrike and LLC. 🌱

As consumers, we have the power to demand better. Ask brands where their wool comes from, support certified wool free from lamb cutting, and encourage the fashion industry to prioritise animal welfare over outdated practices. ✊
