Lioness Manuschka at our FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary loves… the very thin wooden beam on top of her triangular house. 🏠 It might not look very comfortable to us, but if she’s happy, we’re happy! 🧡

Six-year-old Manuschka was once forced to perform unnatural tricks under the circus tent. 🎪 In 2024, her owner finally decided to hand her over to FOUR PAWS, giving her the chance to live a species-appropriate life, receive specialised care, and enjoy the freedom to choose how she spends her time — even if that means perching on a triangular house and spying on the neighbours. 🦁👀

Since her arrival at our BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz, Flora has been learning something new every day. 🐻❄️
Of course, this includes trying a variety of new vegetables and fruits to discover what she likes and what she doesn’t. At the moment, corn on the cob seems to have become one of her favourite foods! 🌽 And we can totally relate.

Flora is also proving to be a real pro when it comes to figuring out new enrichments. 🧠🪵⚽ This curious and intelligent bear brings us joy every single day.

It is truly heart-warming to see her thrive in our sanctuary, thanks to the fantastic and dedicated work of her caretaker team. 🌟💚

Cheap meat shouldn’t come at the expense of animals or the planet. 🐷💔

For years, supermarkets have used ultra‑cheap meat as a loss leader – selling it at a loss to lure customers in and profit from other products. This normalises meat by portraying it as endlessly available and disposable, when the real cost is actually paid by animals and our environment.
Thankfully, change is happening! ✨

Amsterdam has become the world’s first capital city to ban meat and fossil‑fuel advertising in public spaces! 🚫

Most cheap meat comes from intensive factory farms, where animals face overcrowding, stress and poor welfare. Overconsumption of meat also fuels climate breakdown and poses risks to human health.🔥
Starting 1 May this year, the ban marks a huge shift showing that meat doesn’t have to be cheap, the default, or normalised. It also supports Amsterdam’s goal of a 50% plant‑based food system by 2050. 🌿
It’s important to remember: Animals pay the real price of cheap meat. 💔🐖

Update on the beautiful sisters Ramba & Charlota 🤍🐯

Rescued from illegal private captivity in Czechia, these two lovely tigresses have been thriving at our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary since 2023. 🐅🐅

Ramba and Charlota have settled beautifully into their new life. They adore their enrichment activities, have grown confident, and are now building wonderful bonds of trust with their caretakers.

Both of their enclosures are full of lush bamboo—one of their absolute favourites! 🌿

You can often spot them playfully hiding, stalking, or lounging behind the bamboo.

We love watching their personalities shine. 💚

Meet Neptune, also known as Skapie. 🦁✨

Neptune was born at a lion breeding farm in November 2010. He later found his way to Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary and is now known as “the King” with his majestic presence and magnificent beauty. Neptune has captured hearts all over the world, and his loud roars literally make your heart skip a beat. He is an incredibly wise soul - who tells stories without making a sound. Affectionately, his nickname is "Skapie" (little lamb) for his snowy white coat and the soft bleating sounds he made as a cub. 🧡

Recently, Neptune’s world was turned upside down. Devastating wildfires in the Overberg region placed him in immediate danger. To ensure his safety, Neptune was temporarily relocated to our LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary by the team at Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary. While Neptune is safe, the road to recovery for Panthera Africa is long. We are asking for your help to ensure this "Skapie" continues to live the peaceful life he deserves. 🐾

A little fighter with a big will to live! 🦅

This young kestrel has unfortunately had a run of bad luck. After being hit by a car at the end of December, Ella was found injured by the roadside in Haringsee, Austria with a broken leg. 💔

Following treatment at a veterinary clinic, Ella is now a temporary resident at our OWL & BIRDS OF PREY RESCUE STATION Haringsee! Fortunately, we have a bunch of good news:
✨ Her fracture has healed completely!
✨ She can use both legs without any limitations!
✨ She’s already training her flight muscles again! 🪽

Interestingly, X-rays revealed that Ella had suffered another fracture earlier in her life as well, but it doesn’t seem like she suffered any severe repercussions from it.

She is now being prepared for release back into the wild in an aviary. Fingers crossed that she’ll soon be soaring freely over Haringsee once more! 🤍

Do you remember Illiana and Tomoyo? 🧡

After spending years confined in a French circus, the two lionesses were finally given a second chance at life in December 2024, when their owner voluntarily surrendered them. 🍀

Born near Paris and forced into performing, Illiana and Tomoyo had never known anything else — until they arrived at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. Since then, they’ve been thriving in ways that inspire us every day. 🌄🦁

Now soaking up the South African summer sun, they look more at home than ever.

They love watching the world from their favourite spot along the fence line, keeping a curious eye on their neighbours — lionesses Tara, Sheeba and Ounooi — and they never miss their weekly enrichment sessions. 🔵🍃

Charlota's peculiar fur coat surely is not the best for camouflage! 🙈

And unfortunately, it is not the only issue that comes with being a white tiger... The tigress was rescued from illegal keeping in a private home in Czechia in 2023, and, as it is typical in this industry, she was separated from her mother soon after birth, so she could be hand-raised... Charlota was lucky enough to be rescued at a young age, but she shows clear signs of inbreeding and needs very special care. Luckily, this is what she found at TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary after her rescue. 🤎

All white big cats pay a high price for their unique appearance, as they suffer their entire lives from the horrific consequences of inbreeding going back to more than 50 years ago... ⚠️
Be careful about what you see and like on social media, and share your new knowledge about white tigers with anyone who wants to know (...and anyone who did not ask). 😼

It's noon, and lion Erion hasn't even thought about getting up yet. 🦁💤
Snuggled comfortably in his straw bed, he's taking a relaxed approach to the day.
But that's totally normal for lions!

Lions are among the biggest sleepers in the animal kingdom. On average, they sleep about 16–18 hours a day, sometimes even up to 20 hours. All that dozing saves energy that they need for hunting, defending their territory, and, of course, being majestic.

So there's no need to rush, Erion... kings are allowed to sleep in. 😴👑

From one cosy home to another 🐻💛

Bear Frol was originally rescued in Ukraine, lovingly cared for at our BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr, and is now settling beautifully into his new life at BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa. 🌲

Our on site team shares that this gentle giant has been hibernating since mid January. Seeing him so calm, safe, and comfortable after such a short time in his new environment is truly heart warming. It’s yet another reminder that when bears are treated with proper care and dignity, they don’t just survive — they thrive. 🌸

Frol’s enclosure companion, Frosia, is also spending plenty of time in her cosy den. We expect she’ll soon follow his lead and drift off into her own peaceful winter rest.
