Last week, we shared that we are soon planning a big rescue. Aside from the name Zora - which YOU chose for her- we did not reveal anything yet. 🦁💛 Now, it’s time to tell you more.
Zora is a lioness who has been kept illegally in private possession in the Czech Republic.
Does that sound familiar? It should! We previously rescued tigresses Ramba and Charlota from the Czech Republic, where they had been hand-raised and kept as pets in inappropriate conditions. 🐯🐯 Today, both of them are thriving at our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary
Soon, we hope to say the same thing for Zora at FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary. We are thrilled to announce that her rescue mission is officially a go!

One moment, Shevar and Sharukh are sharing a quiet afternoon. The next, they're in a full debate over who gets the best enrichment toy. 🐯💛
The closest bonds are often like that, a mix of affection, mischief, and the occasional disagreement.
But it is not the disagreement that matters, it is finding your way back afterwards. Do you agree? 👀
Since arriving at LIONSROCK after being rescued from a closing zoo, the tiger brothers have built a life filled with space, enrichment and companionship.

What you see in these images might look like an ordinary outdoor market. 🛍️ Groceries, vegetables – and right next to them, pieces of dog meat.
"They sell a lot of dog meat at this market, also known as the dog kennel market; there are truly too many dogs being sold here." 🐕🍖
These words were sent to us along with photos from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. 🇻🇳 Dog meat is sold openly at this market, which has been operating for years. What many people do not see is the excruciating pain and cruelty behind these products.
Many of the slaughtered dogs sold here were once beloved family pets that had been stolen. Dog meat is also often produced under highly unsanitary conditions, posing potential health risks to consumers.
Thousands of dogs and cats are stolen across Vietnam every year. Thousands of dogs and cats are stolen across Vietnam every year.
However, the vast majority of Vietnamese people oppose this cruel trade. However, the vast majority of Vietnamese people oppose this cruel trade. At FOUR PAWS, we work alongside local partners to rescue dogs and cats while advocating for the closure of dog and cat meat businesses. Together, we provide veterinary care, safe shelter, and loving forever homes for survivors, raise awareness about the cruelty and public health risks associated with the trade, and help pet owners protect their animals from theft.

How do you know when an "animal sanctuary" is really one?
A genuine sanctuary exists for animal welfare, not for visitor entertainment.
✅ Prioritises rescue and rehabilitation over breeding
✅ Keeps human contact limited to medical and husbandry needs
✅ Operates with full transparency.
Through our sanctuaries and our partner network we work to ensure exactly that: enclosures built around natural behaviour, no public contact for entertainment, and care plans built around each individual animal's needs.
Here's what to look for; and what we stand behind. 🐾

While many of our stray animal care stories have a happy ending, this one begins with a tough struggle — but stay with us, because it is also one of the most heartwarming ones we have ever shared. ❤️
📦 Cat Keenan was found in a cardboard box. 🐱 Curled tightly beside him were his three tiny siblings. The kittens were weak, frightened, and terribly ill.
The volunteers from our partner Pro Natura Foundation who found them immediately rushed the kittens inside, wrapping them in warm blankets and fighting to save their fragile lives. 🫔 Despite everyone’s efforts, heartbreak came only days later. One by one, Keenan’s three siblings passed away, leaving him alone in the world he had barely begun to know. 💔
But somehow, little Keenan kept going. Even while recovering, Keenan would lean softly into every human hand that reached for him, purring faintly as if thanking them for not giving up on him. As the weeks passed, he slowly grew stronger. And in the end, he even was adopted by the most loving family that you can see on the last picture. 🏡

Live Lamb cutting is not shearing. It’s a painful procedure where strips of skin and flesh are brutally cut from a lamb’s backside - without adequate pain relief 💔🐑.
Why? To prevent flystrike, a condition caused by flies laying eggs in moist, wrinkled skin.
Alternatives to this horrible practice exist, including breeding sheep with less wrinkled skin and improved farm management.
Thousands of farms in Australia are successfully using these methods. ✅
What you can do? Buy less, choose certified wool, or switch to non-wool materials. 🧵

“We found two puppies!” 🐶
Whilst this may sound exciting, in the tough world of stray animals, puppies aren’t good news.
It regularly happens for free-roaming female dogs in Kosovo, to have to care for litters - sometimes 8, 10 babies at a time! - under highly challenging conditions.
Many of those stray puppies don’t get to live long, their fragile condition exposing them even more to the hardships of being a stray dog: hunger, disease, harsh weather, fights for territory…
For that reason, female dogs rank high on the list of sterilisation priorities. And this small white female has been spotted with her family not too far from our partner’s clinic. She is successfully caught by the dog catchers, and her puppies are found nearby, hidden under the safe shadow of a bush.
Only about ten days old, her babies are too young to undergo any treatment, but they will accompany their mother to the vet for her sterilisation and vaccination. The dog mom and her puppies are carefully transported in separate crates as she is now asleep from the darting, and the convoy heads directly to the clinic.
Our experienced vets and partner have performed enough neutering surgeries on stray animals to know that operating on a young mother requires extra, careful steps.
The procedure is a success and the female receives the ear tag that will indicate that she is now neutered. She and her puppies stay at the clinic for observation for a few days and after a prompt recovery and having bravely started feeding her little ones: the trio is returned to its familiar territory.
As they come from nearby, the on-site partner team will check on them regularly, leaving food for the dogs living there whilst checking for newcomers (and potential new clinic visitors!).
For our latest patient at least, these two puppies will be her last, and she won’t have to face the dangers of raising young dogs astray again. Her neutering, along with that of the many females roaming Kosovo, will help reduce the stray dog population and its associated issues in the long term! 🐕
