✨🐑 New York City counted sheep. Now it’s time for Michael Kors to listen. 🐑✨

Over the past two weeks, #CountingSheepNYC transformed New York City into a powerful platform for art, compassion and change.
From Times Square to Brooklyn, artists, photographers, performers and advocates came together to shine a light on an issue that is still hidden from many consumers: the welfare of sheep in the wool industry.

No companion left behind: Patas the cat saved by local police! 🚨🐈

Like many other animals at that time, Patas escaped, frightened, when the earthquake hit his locality in Colombia.

But Patas is no ordinary cat. He is one of the beloved members of the local police station in La Bocana. After going missing for a few days, Patas came back… Except that one of his legs was badly injured, seemingly after being bitten by another animal. 😿

When the police heard that FOUR PAWS’ partner and animal welfare organisation Proyecto ALA was visiting the area to bring help to the community after the earthquake, they rushed Patas to see the accompanying vet...

However, because of the town's remote location and limited resources, the team didn't have the means on site to try to save Pata’s leg… Luckily for the orange cat, his saviours did have a solution to bring him to Buenaventura, a bigger town also affected by the disaster where Proyecto ALA had set up a relief clinic and had already treated many animals injured in the disaster.

Treating Patas like any other urgent patient, the police didn't hesitate and rushed him to the clinic on their fast boat, where he could receive further exams and care for his injury. 🆘🛥️

Thanks to the quick reaction of his caretakers and the help of animal welfare organisations, the little orange cat was treated in time to save all his “patas”, and will soon be able to run again on his “four paws”. ❤️‍🩹

When disasters strike, many animals like Patas end up injured, and not all are lucky enough to be saved in time. Proyecto ALA and FOUR PAWS continue their efforts to help animals in need after the earthquake, so more cats like Patas can safely return to their community.

🐑 Counting Sheep during New York Fashion Week 🐑

🎨Featured Artist: Andrea Fischer, Dayoff.ltd

📍 Artwork location: Times Square, New York City on September 10, and WhiteBox NYC, Times Square subway station (Midtown West)

Something big visited Times Square …our giant lamb made of all recycled, animal friendly materials , created by artist Andrea Fischer and Day Off Art LLC at the plaza!

Why? This lamb sculpture is a part of #CountingSheepNewYorkCity, an art trail across New York City that raises awareness about the cruel practice of live lamb cutting and calls on global fashion giant Michael Kors to publicly commit to sourcing wool that is free from the mutilation.

LLC, (also known as mulesing), is a painful practice affecting millions of lambs in Australia every year, where skin and flesh is cut away from around young lambs’ tails and genitals. A FOUR PAWS investigation of over 100 brands in over 11 countries, found that Michael Kors scored 0 points on wool transparency and action on live lamb cutting.

One step closer to a fur-free Switzerland! 🇨🇭🐾

A major step forward for animals: the Swiss Council of States has said YES to an effective fur import ban!

This is an important step towards ensuring that fur products produced with animal cruelty cannot enter the Swiss market through loopholes.

The fur industry had pushed for weaker rules, including replacing the planned Swiss certification system with so-called “international standards”. But the Council of States rejected these attempts to weaken the proposal. 📣

Why does this matter? Because animals should not suffer in cages so their fur can become fashion.
And the message from people in Switzerland is clear: 94% want the existing fur import ban to remain. 👏

This is an important first step. But we’re not there yet.
Now, one final parliamentary step remains.

The final vote in Parliament is scheduled for 2 October. This decision is an important success for animal protection – and a clear signal against the industrial farming of animals for fur. 🐾

Let’s keep pushing to ensure that cruelly produced fur stays off the Swiss market. 🦊

Curious. Cautious. Playful. Affectionate.

Animals have unique personalities, and pigs are a wonderful example. 🐷❤️

Some pigs are eager to explore their surroundings, while others are more cautious. Some love socialising and staying close to their companions, while others may prefer a little more space. Some even enjoy a cuddle, especially when the temperature drops.

These behaviours aren’t simply random reactions. They can tell us something about how an animal experiences the world around them.

That’s what animal sentience is all about: recognising that animals aren’t simply reacting to the world. They’re experiencing it.

Every animal experiences life as an individual, with their own feelings, preferences, relationships and experiences.

Change your point of view. 💭❤️

- Counting Sheep during New York Fashion Week 🐑

🎨Featured Artist: Martin Wittfooth
📍 Artwork location: Whitebox NY, Times Square subway station (Midtown West)

Inspired by a centuries-old religious masterpiece, this reimagining explores the connection between innocence, sacrifice, and the hidden cost of fashion. Through the symbolic image of a lamb, the work draws attention to the suffering behind live lamb cutting, also known as mulesing, and challenges the fashion industry to take responsibility.

“My painting for the Counting Sheep project calls back to Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbaran’s iconic work from the middle of the 17th Century, “Agnus Dei”, and its central theme of the sacrifice of a “pure” or innocent vessel for others’ gain. In my re-imagining of Agnus Dei (“Lamb of God”), Agnus Vanitatis (“Lamb of Vanity”) envisions the symbolic sacrificial lamb in the same pose of involuntary surrender and bondage as Zurbaran first saw it, but the stone slab has been replaced by a table piled with fabrics and lambskin blankets, live lamb cutting (aka mulesing) shears laid nearby.”

Wittfooth’s painting is as a part of our “Counting Sheep” art trail: a journey of art installations across New York City that aims to raise awareness about the cruel practice of live lamb cutting and calls on global fashion giant Michael Kors to make a public commitment to only source wool that is free from live lamb cutting.

Animals are not cargo. 🐑🐑 They feel fear. They feel pain. They feel heat, cold, thirst and exhaustion. 💔 Yet millions of animals are transported every year, sometimes for days or weeks. They can face extreme temperatures, overcrowding, poor ventilation, limited water, injuries and long delays. 🥵🥶🚛 Some trucks get stuck at borders for days. Some animals cannot reach water. Some die during the journey. 💔 And when animals die during sea transport, their bodies have historically been thrown overboard. 🌊🐑 We have seen the terrible consequences of live animal transport, including the Queen Hind disaster involving thousands of sheep. 🐑🚢 We must learn from these tragedies and protect animals from suffering during transport. 🇪🇺

A whole new world awaits! 🐯 #TogetherForBigCats

We have some amazing news from the rescued big cats who recently arrived in Colorado: four of them have officially graduated from their acclimation period and stepped into their spacious new habitats! 💚

Imagine taking your very first steps onto soft earth, breathing fresh air and looking up at open skies.

For Shelby, curiosity came first. She was the first to leave her den, immediately setting off to explore her new surroundings.

Her sister Satine followed about 10 minutes later, choosing a quiet spot in the shade of a tree, where she spent the afternoon taking in her new environment at her own pace.

Elsewhere, Patrick confidently left the lockout and spent the afternoon exploring every corner of his enclosure, even checking out his new neighbours in the nearby enclosures.

Meanwhile, his brother Liam? He decided there was no rush at all. He stayed in the den, napping peacefully throughout the day.

And that’s okay. Every tiger gets to experience this new chapter in their own way. 🐾

It is truly wonderful to see them settling in and beginning to enjoy the space, fresh air, and freedom to choose they deserve.

We’re incredibly grateful to our colleagues at TWAS for providing these rescued animals with such loving and expert care. ❤️

Here’s to many more days of exploration, discovery, and simply being tigers!

皿 Cage with a horrible view 🐱
This heartbreaking image, submitted through our reporting tool, offers a devastating glimpse into the cat meat trade in Vietnam. 🇻🇳

In the foreground, cats are confined inside a cage. Many cats caught in this trade are believed to have been stolen from their homes or taken from the streets, sometimes transported hundreds of kilometers from where they were found.
And these cats can see what comes next.

Just meters away, dead cats have been laid out at a vendor’s stall, waiting to be sold. We have blurred the bodies in this image to spare you from seeing what these frightened animals were forced to witness.
There is no way these cats have survived. But we want to prevent the killing of millions more.

If you have not heard about the horrible cat meat trade in Vietnam: Millions of cats are being stolen and killed every year. ➡️ Check out our website to see what you can do www.four-paws.org/campaigns-topics/campaigns/end-t… #protectmillions

🐑 The Silence: Art for a More Compassionate Future - Counting Sheep during New York Fashion Week 🐑

🎨Featured Artists: Kelly Fogel & Lori Menna
📍 Artwork location: Photoville cubes at DUMBO’s Archway in Brooklyn

“The Silence” brings together photography and digital art to shed light on live lamb cutting and inspire more compassionate choices.

When FOUR PAWS approached Kelly about this project, she learned about live lamb cutting (LLC), also known as mulesing, for the first time. Motivated to help raise awareness, Kelly traveled to a small Merino sheep farm in Montana. She spent time with the farmers and their flock, documenting sheep husbandry practices that avoid live lamb cutting. 🐑

Artists Kelly Fogel and Lori Menna collaborated to create „The Silence,“ a piece that draws its title and spirit from the 1991 psychological thriller that shares its name, The Silence of the Lambs. Combining on Kelly Fogel's evocative photography and Cosmic Collage’s symbolic digital artistry, this collaboration uses art and storytelling to raise awareness of live lamb cutting and promote more compassionate choices. 🤫

“The Silence” is as a part of our “Counting Sheep” art trail: a journey of art installations across New York City that aims to raise awareness about the cruel practice of live lamb cutting and calls on global fashion giant Michael Kors to make a public commitment to only source wool that is free from live lamb cutting.
