A calf is born… and taken from its mother within hours 🐄💔.
Loaded onto a truck. Sent away to be fattened 🚚.
Weeks later, transported again - this time by ship 🚢.
Why? Because calves are treated as a by-product of the dairy industry.
Crammed together. Stressed. Exhausted.
Many don’t survive the journey.
Those who do, still face a cruel end.
Why are they transported alive?
Because it’s cheaper. Profit over welfare.
This has to change.
Please share to raise awareness. 🐄💔

This is the chance to make history and ban fur cruelty! 📣🦊

The scientific consensus is clear: It is not possible to protect animal welfare on cruel fur farm systems. ❌ A system that cannot meet basic welfare standards cannot be fixed.

Leaked documents suggest the Commission may reject an EU-wide fur farming ban and instead introduce low standards. This would ignore the overwhelming evidence on animal welfare, biodiversity, and economic viability – and more than 1.5 million EU citizens who called for an end to this inherently cruel industry. 💔

The EU has the opportunity to lead by example, to end fur farming and imports now! Anything else would be #unFURgivable!

This is Enzo. A sick, displaced kitten, alone in one of Beirut's most dangerous areas, just metres from a fuel station at risk of being targeted. 💥
Small. Fragile. A severely infected eye, a high fever, and an upper respiratory infection. Around four and a half months old, likely displaced by the ongoing conflict and left to navigate somewhere unfamiliar and unsafe. 💔
He wasn't afraid of people. The @animalslebanon team picked him up and brought him immediately into vet care, where the full picture emerged: he needed surgery on the eye, he needed antibiotics. He needed time, love and care; they didn't let him down. 🐱❤️‍🩹
In conflict, animals lose everything that kept them safe. Teams like this are often the only thing standing between that and survival.
Enzo made it, thanks to the emergency response he received. He is recovering from the surgery and the trauma he’s been through.
Please help to support more animals in need ️ ➡ bit.ly/LebanonAnimals

It’s official! The European Parliament has formally approved the new EU rules on the welfare and traceability of dogs and cats. 🐶🐱

These rules seek to stop abusive practices, curb cruel business methods, and, in general, protect the welfare of cats and dogs – as 74% of EU pet owners surveyed demanded better protection for their beloved four-legged friends. 🐕

FOUR PAWS played a crucial role in shaping the law, as years of advocacy have helped secure important amendments: mandatory identification and registration for all kept dogs and cats, an online verification system for pets sold online, and minimum welfare standards for all breeding establishments.

These measures will help combat illegal trade and strengthen protection across all 27 Member States. ✅

➡️ What will change for us, pet owners? How and when will the law be implemented? How long will it take and which animals exactly are covered?

Ask us all your questions whilst the law goes through its last process of being adopted by the Council of the European Union. 📝

Welcome to BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz, Teddy! 🐻🌿

Today marks the beginning of Teddy’s retirement. After 32 years at Tierpark Westerhausen, the park’s new management made the compassionate decision to voluntarily give her up so that Teddy can retire under our care. 💚

We’re happy to share that everything went smoothly: Teddy was anaesthetised by our wildlife vet so she could be safely placed in her transport crate. 🩺

Our chief animal caretaker, Tom, stayed right beside the transport crate to monitor her as she woke up. Once she was fully awake, our team – together with our EARS partner, Stiftung für Bären, and the management of Tierpark Westerhausen – set off on the journey. 🚛

The team made two stops to check on Teddy. She was very calm, so the team continued the journey without any further stops. After around four hours, the convoy arrived safely at BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz.

Under the supervision of our wildlife vet and Tom, Teddy was gently released into her indoor enclosure. Bravely, she took her first steps in her new home, explored all the different kinds of food prepared for her by the team, and even enjoyed some honey from the caretakers. 🐾

Now, it’s up to Teddy to decide what comes next. Everything will be adapted to her pace and her needs. When she is ready, she will have access to her outdoor enclosure and the chance to explore her natural surroundings. 🌳

We are deeply grateful to Stiftung für Bären, who have advocated for Teddy for many years, and we sincerely appreciate the animal-friendly decision made by the new management of Tierpark Westerhausen to give Teddy the chance to retire under our care. ✨

We hope this decision inspires other facilities and owners who are unable to provide the highest welfare standards to reconsider keeping wild animals such as bears. While Teddy is beginning her new chapter with us, bear Tim in Slovenia is still being kept in poor conditions at Zoo Park Rozman. His keeping does not even fulfil the minimum requirements for brown bears in Europe, and he is showing severe stereotypic behaviour as a result of stress caused by these conditions. Tim deserves better, and our BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach can provide an immediate solution for him!

As we continue to fight for bear Tim, we are incredibly happy about Teddy’s arrival and will, of course, keep you updated on her new life. 💚🐻

Lions should NOT be in a café! 💔🦁

We have received many complaints and reports regarding a lion café in Thailand, where lion cubs are used for photo pros and interaction. We are aware of the issue and it reflects a much bigger problem.

Unlike tigers, lions are not native to Thailand. Only in 2022 were they classified as ‘‘controlled and dangerous wildlife’’, meaning they can still be legally owned with basic registration, microchipping, and minimal paperwork.

But the reality behind this system is alarming! ⚠️

Between 2018 and 2024, the number of captive lions in Thailand tripled - from at least 131 lions across 31 facilities to at least 444 lions in 82 facilities.

Over 90% are kept in private zoos and so‑called “entertainment” venues, with around 101 cubs bred every year. The cub trade alone is estimated to be worth nearly US$1 million annually. 💰

This is a profitable industry built on exploitation - one that puts both animals and people at risk. 🚨

Despite existing laws, weak enforcement and legal loopholes allow it to continue, fuelled by tourism and the demand for social media content.

Taking photos with these animals, visiting these venues, or even engaging with their content online directly supports this system that breeds and exploits animals for profit. 📸

We strongly urge you not to visit, interact with, or promote facilities like this - either in person or online. 🙏

Instead, document and report the abuse to local authorities and via our Big Cat Reporting Tool: www.four-paws.org/campaigns-topics/campaigns/ruthl… .📝

🚫 Don’t visit.
🚫 Don’t share.
🚫 Don’t fund this.

Let’s demand an end to this abuse! ✊

Teddy’s moving day is getting close! 🐻✨
Tierpark Westerhausen has been Teddy’s home for her entire life – she was born there 32 years ago. The new management recognised that while her enclosure meets the minimum legal standards, it is far from appropriate.

Additionally, as Teddy has grown older, her current enclosure no longer meets her changing needs. The terrain – a mix of concrete, rocks and some vegetation – is slightly sloped and not suitable for an elderly bear. Access to the pool is only possible via stairs, which can also be challenging for her.
We are incredibly grateful to our EARS partner, Stiftung für Bären, who has been advocating for a better life and a second chance for Teddy for many years. We also warmly welcome the decision by Tierpark Westerhausen to voluntarily hand her over, so she can enjoy the rest of her life at BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz. 🌿💚

In Müritz, the team has been working hard over the past weeks to prepare the perfect home for an elderly bear – a place where Teddy can explore everything at her own pace, surrounded by nature. 🌳

We hope this decision inspires other facilities to move away from keeping wild animals in inappropriate conditions. Tierpark Westerhausen has also confirmed that Teddy will not be replaced and that they will refrain from keeping other large carnivores in the future. ✨

We can’t wait to see Teddy settle into her new home. Teddy, we’ll see you very soon! 💚🐻

Goats are far more than meets the eye 🐐✨
Intelligent, curious, and deeply social, they’ve been part of human life for centuries. Quick to learn and happiest in the company of their herd, goats form strong bonds and love to explore their world.

Sadly, many goats are still farmed for meat, milk, mohair and cashmere, often facing neglect and serious welfare issues.

May your weekend feel a little like Cam’s. 🐻

Calm mornings, good food all around, and plenty of cosy spots to rest.
Before his rescue, Cam was found underweight and exhausted, confined to a tiny cage. But since arriving at BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh in 2021, his life has completely changed.

Today, Cam is a different bear. He is playful, and endlessly curious, especially when it comes to one of his favourite activities: climbing! 🌿🐾

Spring has arrived – and soon, Teddy will too! 🌸🐻

Teddy was born at Tierpark Westerhausen in 1994 and has spent her entire life there. Although her enclosure meets the minimum legal requirements for keeping brown bears in Germany, it is inappropriate.

For many years, our EARS partner, Stiftung für Bären, has been advocating for a better future for Teddy. Last year, the park’s new management made the compassionate decision to give her up voluntarily, so she can finally live in an environment tailored to her needs – something she will find at our BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz. 🌿

To prepare for her transfer, Teddy needed to be microchipped and vaccinated. We visited this sweet bear in October last year to also assess her health, as she had never received a full veterinary check at Tierpark Westerhausen. 🩺

The veterinary team confirmed that Teddy is in good condition for her age, although she has some fractured teeth that will require treatment in the future.

As her behaviour at the time indicated the onset of hibernation, relocating her during winter 2025 would have caused unnecessary stress. We therefore decided to give her the time and rest she needed and to plan her move for spring instead. ❄️➡️🌼

Now that everything is beginning to bloom, Teddy’s journey into a new chapter is just around the corner! 🌷✨ Keep an eye on our channels so you don’t miss this special moment for a truly special bear. 💚🐻
