What's the smoothest line you've ever heard in a movie? 😍

This one has to be up there: "Maybe you wanted to see me."

Did it make you smile the first time you watched it? ❤️

Happy Birthday, Sheetal Sheth!🎂✨

Looking through these photographs today, I'm reminded of just how many stories we've shared over the years.

There are the films, of course—the characters, the journeys, the moments that found their way into audiences' hearts. But what I find myself thinking about most are the memories behind the camera: the laughter, the conversations, the adventures, and the friendship that grew alongside the work.

You’ve always brought such honesty, warmth, intelligence and generosity to every role, and it's been a privilege to watch you bring Leyla and Amina to life with such grace and heart. Thank you for the stories we've told together, and for all the ones that exist beyond the screen.

Wishing you a birthday filled with love, laughter, and all the joy you bring to so many others.

With so much love,

Shamim

Okay, so here’s the thing—this month in the kitchen (and in life), things got a little… spicy....

Come read Shamim's latest piece, ‘Garlic Is Not Measured in Cloves but in Courage.’ It’s full of love, chaos, and the tiny rules that somehow make life delicious.

And because it’s Pride Month, we’re giving founding members a little extra love—25% off your subscription. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of something, and join us! :)

For many LGBTQ+ people, coming out means risking rejection from the people they love most. These scenes from I Can't Think Straight remind us why visibility, acceptance, and compassion matter. 🌈❤️

Written and directed by Shamim Sarif, I Can't Think Straight tells the story of two women navigating love, identity, family expectations, and the courage to live authentically.

Fun fact: The story was inspired by Shamim's own journey with her now wife, Hanan Kattan, who went on to become the producer of the film and several of Shamim's other films.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the courage to live authentically, the power of stories to change hearts, and every person who has found the strength to be themselves despite fear.

You could marry the man that everyone expects, take the job that everyone admires, or eat the cake that everyone offers. Or… notice the quiet folds inside yourself.

Award-winning writer and director Shamim Sarif’s latest Substack explores why we often yield in small, sensible increments and how the path of least resistance shapes who we become.

Nobody really prepares you for the moment your children become more fluent than you — not just in technology or language, but in the emotional architecture of the world they’re inheriting.

In return, my sons informed me that:

– the thumbs-up emoji is emotionally aggressive,

– full stops are hostile,

– and apparently nobody answers phone calls anymore.

Reading this piece again before Mother’s Day, I realised the real lesson may have been this: “I don’t have to know everything.”

Which, frankly, still feels suspicious.

(Though the Oxford comma remains non-negotiable.)

Happy almost Mother’s Day 💛
