This channel started in 2014 as "Flying Sucks" because I wanted to show videos from my 2010 trip: overland from Germany to Australia "without flying."
In 2019, I renamed it to "Matthias Grallert," my real name, I wanted to sound more "serious".
In 2024, I added "(I am speed)" to the name, a first attempt to make it easier to remember. Because I had a problem: Whenever people asked me, "what's your channel called?", I always had to write it down because my real name isn't that easy to pronounce or remember.
Now, in 2025, I'm changing the name to what it should have always been: something catchy with "Matzi".
"Matzi" has been my nickname since I was seven, and everyone calls me that, even my boss. So it's not a pseudonym.
"Matzi Goes Wild" fits all my content: I "literally" go wild when I go on a hike with wild camping. "Goes wild" can also be a trip to another country, a new experience, anything that feels "wild" to me.

Let me explain:

This channel started in 2014 under the name "Flying Sucks" because I wanted to show videos from my 2010 trip: I spent a year traveling overland from Germany to Australia "without flying."
Around 2019, I renamed the channel to "Matthias Grallert," my real name, because I wanted to sound more serious. Back then, it was common practice to use your real name, especially for photography channels.
In 2024, I added "(I am speed)" to the name, a first attempt to make it easier to remember. Because I had a problem: Whenever people asked me, "Hey, what's your YouTube channel called?", I always had to write it down or spell it out because my real name isn't that easy to pronounce or remember.

Now, in 2025, I'm changing the name to what it should have always been: something catchy with "Matzi" and less serious.
"Matzi" has been my nickname since I was seven, and everyone calls me that, even my boss. So it's my real name, not a pseudonym.
And "Matzi goes wild" fits all the content on my channel: I "literally" go wild when I go on a hike with wild camping. "Goes wild" can also be a trip to another country, a new experience, anything that feels "wild" to me.

The channel content won't change:
It will continue to be a mix of hiking, traveling, and photography. Since those are my main hobbies, I won't change that. But maybe one day I'll discover a new "wild" hobby and share it with the world on this channel.

The "WHW Wildcamp 2" video is finished since 1 week but I had problems uploading it to Youtube. I had to try it multiple times and even export it a second time until it finally worked today. I am not sure yet what caused the problem. However: the video is ready, it will be published tonight! 🙂
