Russia’s Sberbank has launched a new mutual fund linked to India’s Nifty50 Index, giving Russian investors direct exposure to Indian markets.

This move is significant because India pays for Russian oil in Indian Rupees (INR) due to sanctions.
Since Russia cannot convert these rupees into dollars or euros, the funds remain stuck in India.

Instead of keeping idle INR, Russia is now reinvesting the rupee surplus back into Indian financial markets through products like this Nifty50-based fund.

This brings additional foreign inflows, boosts liquidity, and strengthens India’s capital markets.

In simple words:

Russia sells oil → gets rupees → can’t convert them → so it invests those rupees into India’s stock market.

A win-win: Russia uses its surplus, and India gains more investment inflow.
