Just 72 hours after the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima, the Hiroden streetcars were running again.
That was 81 years ago today.
I interviewed one of those conductors, Sasaguchi-san, who was 14 years old when the bomb fell. She passed away at 95 not long after this episode was released.
I’m grateful she trusted me with her story, and I hope it continues to remind people why these firsthand accounts matter while we still have them.
