India Reacts as Vishnu Statue Demolished at Thailand–Cambodia Border
India has expressed deep concern after a statue of Lord Vishnu was demolished at the Thailand–Cambodia border, calling the act disrespectful and hurtful to religious sentiments worldwide. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Hindu and Buddhist deities are part of a shared civilisational heritage in the region and such actions damage cultural and religious harmony.
According to reports, the statue, installed in 2014 in a disputed border area, was removed using heavy machinery amid renewed tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. India urged both countries to exercise restraint, protect cultural heritage, and resolve differences through dialogue to prevent further escalation.
The incident has triggered outrage on social media and renewed focus on safeguarding religious and historical sites during border disputes.

Opinion | Scrapping H-1B Lottery Could Cost US Its Global Talent Edge
The decision to scrap the H-1B visa lottery marks a major shift in how the United States views skilled immigration. By replacing the random selection system with a wage- and skill-based model, the Trump administration is clearly signalling that only the highest-paid foreign professionals will be prioritised. While the move is being framed as a way to protect American jobs and wages, it raises serious questions about fairness, access, and long-term talent sustainability.
For decades, the H-1B lottery gave equal opportunity to applicants, regardless of whether they were fresh graduates or experienced professionals. The new system changes that balance. By favouring higher salaries, it effectively shuts the door on early-career talent, including thousands of Indian engineers and STEM graduates who once relied on the lottery to enter the U.S. workforce. Talent potential is now being judged largely by pay slips, not promise.
This shift could also hurt innovation. Many global tech leaders began their U.S. journeys in junior roles before growing into high-impact contributors. Limiting access to only top-tier earners risks narrowing the talent pipeline and reducing diversity in skills and perspectives. Smaller companies and startups, which often hire young foreign professionals, may struggle the most under the new framework.
At a time when countries like Canada and Germany are making immigration easier for skilled workers, the U.S. risks losing its appeal as the world’s top destination for global talent. Scrapping the H-1B lottery may protect short-term domestic interests, but it could weaken America’s long-standing advantage as a magnet for ambition, innovation, and global expertise.

Why ISRO’s BlueBird Block-2 Launch Is a Game Changer for India’s Commercial Space Push
ISRO’s BlueBird Block-2 satellite launch on December 24, 2025, is more than a routine space mission. It marks a major milestone in India’s growing commercial space journey, showing that the country is ready to compete in the global launch services market.
The mission used ISRO’s LVM3 rocket to place the 6,100-kg BlueBird Block-2 satellite into Low Earth Orbit. This is the heaviest commercial satellite ever launched by ISRO, proving the agency’s ability to handle large and complex private payloads with confidence. For international clients, this reliability matters as much as cost.
What makes this launch especially important is the role of NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), ISRO’s commercial arm. The satellite was launched for US-based AST SpaceMobile, which aims to provide direct-to-smartphone 4G and 5G connectivity from space. This highlights India’s shift from science-focused missions to revenue-driven commercial launches.
At a time when global demand for satellite internet and communication services is rising, ISRO’s success strengthens India’s position as a trusted and cost-effective launch partner. It also boosts confidence among Indian private space startups that want to serve global customers.

Libyan Army Chief Dies as Jet Crashes After Takeoff in Turkey
Ankara/Tripoli, Dec 24: Libya’s military chief General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad was killed after a private jet crashed near Ankara, Turkey, shortly after takeoff on Tuesday evening, officials confirmed.
The Dassault Falcon 50 aircraft had departed from Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport and was en route to Tripoli following high-level meetings with Turkish defence officials. The jet reportedly developed a technical fault and requested an emergency landing before losing radar contact near the Haymana district, south of the Turkish capital.
All eight people on board, including senior Libyan military officials and crew members, died in the crash. There were no survivors.
Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah expressed deep condolences and announced three days of national mourning. Turkish and Libyan authorities have launched a joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The incident marks a major setback for Libya’s military leadership and comes amid ongoing defence cooperation between Turkey and Libya’s Government of National Unity.

What’s Really Fueling Karbi Anglong Unrest? Assam’s Land Crisis Explained
The ongoing unrest in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts of Assam is not a sudden breakdown of law and order—it is the outcome of long-standing anxieties around tribal land rights, identity, and governance. The protests, sparked by demands to evict alleged encroachers from protected grazing lands, quickly escalated into violence, leaving deaths, injuries, and public property damaged.
At the centre of the conflict lies the Sixth Schedule, which was designed to protect indigenous communities and their land from unchecked settlement and exploitation. For many protesters, the issue is not merely encroachment but a growing fear that constitutional safeguards are being weakened by administrative delays and political silence. When such concerns remain unaddressed for years, frustration inevitably spills onto the streets.
The state’s response—imposing prohibitory orders, suspending internet services, and deploying additional forces—may help contain the immediate situation. However, these measures treat the unrest as a security problem rather than a deep-rooted socio-political challenge. The torching of the autonomous council chief’s residence and road blockades reflect a breakdown of trust between citizens and institutions meant to represent them.
Karbi Anglong’s crisis is a reminder that development without dialogue can deepen fault lines in tribal regions. Protecting land rights, ensuring transparent governance under the Sixth Schedule, and creating inclusive economic opportunities are essential to restoring stability. Without genuine engagement, such protests are likely to recur—because they stem not just from land disputes, but from a struggle for dignity and constitutional assurance.

Euphoria Singer Palash Sen Opens Up on Bollywood Bias Against Independent Artists
Lucknow, Dec 23: Euphoria frontman Palash Sen has spoken openly about what he calls years of unfair treatment by Bollywood and major music labels, while thanking audiences for standing by him throughout his career. The singer said that despite completing nearly 27 years in the music industry, he never got a Bollywood song, even as independent artists like him struggled for recognition.
Speaking during a performance at the Repertwahr Festival in Lucknow, Sen said Bollywood’s dominance and label-driven politics have sidelined independent musicians. He added that music in films is often treated as a promotional tool rather than an art form. However, Sen stressed that the love of fans has kept Euphoria relevant and alive, calling audience support his biggest achievement.
The singer also urged for a stronger independent music ecosystem in India, where artists can thrive without depending on film projects or big labels.
