THE AWESOME TRIUMPH OF MOTHERHOOD IN DIASPORA π€±
I remember when i was in my last trimester for my second son. Sometimes, fear will grip my heart. I always wonder how I am going to take care of a newborn from scratch. My first experience as a mom was so different. I wasn't handed a newborn baby to go home and take care of alone.
Two of my elder sisters, plus my mom, was at the hospital before I was even discharged. After I was safely home, they went home to their houses. My mom took over with my girl. My duty as a new mom was to sleep, wake up, eat, and nurse my baby. My siblings are always coming around. I was surrounded by family.
Motherhood in diaspora is layered. It carries joy and grief in the same breath. You become everything at once without warning. You learn to be brave because you have no other option.
Fast-forward to when I gave birth. The day we were discharged from the hospital, I was like, so you people are seriously handing me a newborn to go and take care of all by myself π©π©π©
I missed the way Motherhood back home would have been shared. But my husband...stood in for that which i was so scared of. He actually perfected the omugwo series πππ his omugwo peppersoup recipe ( ji mmiri oku) still had me licking my lips each time i remember it. Gradually, i started learning Motherhood in a new dimension in a country that did not know my name.
THE TRIUMPH... YOU ARRIVE UNSURE AND UNSTEADY , BUT LOVE TEACHES YOU HOW TO STAY AND BE BRAVE πͺ

Ndi Inyom clock it π€π
The story behind this picture π€π
The day I wore an African wrapper (Ukwu Akwa) for the first time to a meeting in the village π This was 2021, my very first meeting of ndi inyom (Married women) I was a first time mom then. My mom in law already left for the meeting. I don't want to go that early, plus i have my soon to be one year old son to dote on as a first-time momπ
When I finally decided it was time for me to go. I stood in the mirror, staring at this wrapper like a university exam i did not study forπ€£ people of God... I tied, I untied, I retied and finally became tired!
I have seen my mom tie her wrapper a million times, so I said to myself , Achalugo, you can do thisπͺ somehow by luck and ancestral support, the wrapper held. I stepped out in glory. Negodu Achalugoπ₯°π₯°
I had to pose for my husband to take this picture of me before I hurried outπ
